A tribute to great writing
It is very difficult to blend comedy and drama, especially within the limited confines of a television show. The writers who scripted this third season of "Rizzoli and Isles," however, managed to do just that.I make no secret of the fact that I prize good writing above all else when it comes to books, television programs, and movies. Perhaps that's because I spent nearly 50 years as a journalist and the last several since I retired writing novels and short stories. During that time I was exposed to both great writing and to awful writing and so I can claim to know a well crafted bit of dialogue when I see it or hear it.Given that experience, and added to the fact I am a voracious reader, it is my opinion, therefore, that even the greatest actors in the world cannot succeed without a good script and even wonderful literary characters must fail to capture the imagination of readers if the plot and narrative style are subpar. In "Rizzoli and Isles" episodes that almost never happens. Both Jane Rizzoli and Dr. Maura Isles are believable characters, for example, and are written as "real" people with flaws. Rizzoli, for example, is impatient, prone to snap judgments, and loyal. Isles is often conflicted about her emotions and a woman who, despite her accomplishments, is unsure of herself in social situations. Supporting characters, the members of Rizzoli's team and her family, are equally well fleshed out, and even the villains - especially serial killer Charles Hoyt - are well developed.I do not mean to suggest that this is not an excellent ensemble cast by any means. I especially, for example, enjoy Lorraine Bracco's portray of Rizzoli's beleaguered mother Angela. What I am saying, however, is that without excellent storytelling, they would not be able to deliver the strong performances they do.Five big stars.

Great show
OK I'll confess I've had a crush on Angie Harmon for years, so when I first saw a commercial three years ago for a cop show staring Angie, I was ready for episode one. As a huge NCIS fan I was devastated when "Kate" was killed off, so when I learned that Sasha Alexander (who played Kate) was also in this new show I was ecstatic. The rest of the cast is great too, but the two ladies playing the lead roles, are obviously the stars, and rightfully so.I've watched all three seasons now, and love the show. It's got a unique tone, that strikes a good balance of "cop show" and "chick flick," which makes it viewable by both men and women-------------wife loves watching the show also. There are some edge of the seat moments, and some interesting plot twists, but for the most part it's pretty tame by today's standards which is a refreshing change in a market that seems interested in pushing shock value. Obviously every episode has a crime to solve, but there's always lots of friendly banter between the two stars or the Rizzoli family which keeps things much lighter than most police dramas. I wish the producers and cast the best of luck, and hope the show stays strong for several more seasons.

I love Rizzoli and Isles!!
I have been totally binge watching the whole series.. I am up to Season 5 and I love, love, love it! I got hooked on it because my local NBC affiliate was running it late on Sunday nights, but as is often the case with TV stations sticking in an older show as filler, it was disjointed and episodes were out of order or missed altogether. So I found it on Hulu and have been watching it ever since. I love the friendship depicted between Jane and Maura. Both strong women who are very different, they love each other in a way that is a great model for us all. I also love the Rizolli family... Angela, Frankie and Tommy. And ok, I have to admit it, I have a bit of a crush on sergeant-detective Korsak. When he played his guitar and sang in one episode, I was completely smitten.

Love This Series
Bought Seasons 1-3.This show manages to blend the dark side of life with positive counter balance. It takes me back to the kind of TV I enjoy. This show manages to blend the dark side of life with positive counter balance. It is great to see a show about supportive friendship/family, with its ups & downs, in a way that I can relate to from my experiences with my own friends/life.At times the writers seem to fall back on the standard formula for police drama, but more often than not, the show keeps a realistic balance of positive and negative. Most of the story lines are well written; but I always wonder why it is necessary to always throw in a psychotic killer who keeps making appearances. If less was shown about crazy, psychotic behavior, maybe there might be less of it in real life. Life has many, many stories that can be told without the vicious, vindictive, crazy, characters being the main focus. With all that said, Rizzoli & Isles is positively different enough from many of today's TV shows for me to really enjoy watching. it.

Don't Get Made
I've enjoyed the first two seasons of Rizzoli & Isles immensely. When season three started, I had moved to a new place, and the cable wasn't going to be available until well into the season. Since TNT no longer allowed you to watch the episodes for free after they aired on their site, I had to find an alternate method to be able to follow the series. Being allowed to stream-line from Amazon was great. Tuesday nights weren't always free, so waiting until Wednesday or another day during the week was just fine, and now I have the episodes stored in my library to go back and watch again as many times as I would like. I'm so impressed with Amazon's service, I'll be ordering season one and two on disk from them, and then season three when it becomes available. I wish Angie Harmon, Sasha Alexander, Janet Tumero, and Tess Gerritsen the best of luck with the series. I can't wait to get Tess'es 10th book in the series. I may just turn to Amazon.com for all of my Rizzoli and Isles needs. The dialogue was crisp and clear, the picture was clear, no connection problems, even the transition spots where you knew the commercials would have been were transitioned smoothly.

Very entertaining
I've read all of Tess Gerritsen's Rizzoli and Isles books and was frustrated that we don't get the TV series in the UK - can't think why - Channel 5 take note, it's very good, buy it!While the characters are from the books only the first story of the first series is from the books and the relationships are a little different.Frustrated that series 4 isn't available until November 2014! This is my late night little treat!

Good Stuff.
I didn't feel this series was as strong as series 2, but still very enjoyable. The main characters are good, the relationship is a key focus of the series but it has almost become an ensemble show, and is well written. Do watch series 1 & 2 first though!

Rizzoli and Isles
The chemistry between the characters feel very real. And this is what sets it apart from other detective series. Anyone who's looking for a little more than crimes being solved should watch this.
