The Snooty Bookshop: Fifty Literary Postcards by Tom Gauld

We quite like the content of these - they are funny, although not as many fit the theme as we expected - but the way they are packaged is absolutely terrible. Think a book of postcards but the book is thick cardboard. You can't store the postcards in it like you would a box (why they couldn't have just put these in a box and made it easy for everyone is beyond me) and you also can't cut up the cover to make a bookmark or something. The cards were extremely difficult to remove from the glued edge; I tore four (and my husband and I are experts at separating postcards; we have hundreds of sets). The paper quality could be better too. If it wasn't for the packaging, I would have given these four stars.

Dozens of postcards with funny illustrations related to reading, writing and libraries. The postcards are packaged as a book with very thick pages. I have no intention of using the pages as postcards so have not tried to separate the postcards - I can't speak to the ease/difficulty of doing so.I enjoy Tom Gauld's humour and drawings (indeed, the humour is in the drawings). This did not disappoint.If you're looking to a companion to "You're All just Just Jealous of My Jetpack" or one of his other books, be aware that this is packaged/presented differently. It really is a small thick book of postcards. The illustrations/words are on one side of each page with the back of each page designed for address/stamp.

If you are a nerd and you have nerdy friends they will love getting one of these postcards in the mail from you. Tom Gauld's cartoons are smart, funny, and smart. If you are a book nerd, science nerd, history nerd, or pop culture nerd, (any kind of nerd, really), you will love these postcards. I'm saving my three favorites to frame and sending the rest to friends and family to share the Gauldiness!

I've recently taken up snail mailing. Postcrossing. I was looking for some cute postcards to share and this is perfect! The cards are witty and charming. I love them!

I decided to keep this as a coffee table book. It is too funny to break up the cards and give away. Buy a separate set to send.

Hilarious postcards! Tom Gauld is so clever. I’m almost reluctant to send these out to friends but I will as they will enjoy the dry humor.

A hidden gem, especially for book lovers. Great quality, and tears off cleanly unlike other postcard books. Very happy with this purchase.

Most are funny. Some will probably never find a home because they’re a bit specific (named authors, etc). They’re a good quality, matte card that takes ink easily. Sometimes the glued edge gets a little bent or damaged when I remove them from the book. I usually run a craft knife along the glued edge to remove them carefully but it still happens. I’ve swapped some with some very happy bookstore owners, librarians,and an author friend. 🙂 They love them!!!
