They came packaged nicely, and no complaints about what came with them. You get a re-usable ziplock type back to hold each of the two compasses, which both come with extra screws, thumb wheels, and leads. Everything looked great.Until I started using them. The wheels just would NOT tighten the leads or pins enough to keep them from slipping right up inside the compasses.The problem turned out to be the two metal legs that tighten down the lead or the metal pin. Specifically, there are two flat pieces of metal that the lead or pin get squeezed between by a tiny thumb wheel. These two legs start out way too wide, and then the thumb wheel tightens down on the pin/lead much farther down toward the end.This results in only one very tiny spot actually making contact with the lead or pin. So you can tighten 'til the cows come home, and it will NEVER be tight enough to keep it from slipping right back up inside the compass.The fix was to take a pair of pliers and bend the top part closed (a lot), so that the legs are now basically parallel with the pin/lead. Now when you turn the thumb wheel to tighten it, the entire length of the legs are making contact with the lead/pin so that it actually stays put.Whew.Because I had to modify the compasses, I'd say pretty weak quality control. Or a bad design. Or both.
