Hoya Carnosa Variegated (Golden Wax Plant) Kokedama This bonsai was handcrafted following the ancient art of kokedama floral design. It is a fusion of Chinese & Japanese elements. The origin of kokedama dates back some 500 years in Japan. Kokedama is sometimes referred to as the "poor man's bonsai" (the story goes that local farmers/villagers at the time were too poor to afford pots so they would scrape moss of rocks and tie together with whatever they could find). Kokedama means "moss ball" in Japanese. Kokedama replaces pots with moss. Hoya is a great specimen for kokedama. Hoya is a semi-epiphytic plant that likes constant moisture and high humidity. A fast growing climber with glossy, elliptical, dark green leaves. Studies at have shown hoya carnosa to be an excellent remover of pollutants in the indoor environment. Kokedama includes a plant hanger to create a hanging string garden (sorry no stone or tea candle included).
