REED Instruments R7050 Compact Photo Tachometer and Counter,

Black used diesel oil is always messy in boats. Usually there's no room for collection pans under engines. This unit makes it much cleaner to extract usually hot oil for sample collecting to containers for mailing. Minimal drips & fits the lab supplied bottles.

I have been using it for several days calibrating a treadmill using different console PCBs. It agrees 100% with using belt length/revolutions/time to measure the ft/sec of the belt and then mph. It appears to be well designed and rugged. The battery compartment is a bit tight but not a big deal. Highly recommended.

For the money, this is the best, most compact instrument I’ve purchased!We were able to accurately measure and tune the wheel speed. We cleaned a spot on each wheel planetary and applied the tape then were able to stand back and accurately measure the rotation speed of each wheel.

I have been researching spinning objects and have acquired five tachometers. This one is the most expensive I've purchased. I like its rapid acquisition and illuminated display. But I'm frustrated that about five percent of readings are flat wrong. I am certain of the errors because when I plot readings of the RPM decay of a spinning top, some readings depart from the smooth plot by hundreds of RPM.

Very good, only complaint, I do wish it had provisions for stand attachment rather than solely being hand held. Otherwise works great.

This tachometer is very easy to use and has a great measuring range. The main benefit of this tachometer is the laser output. While you still need to use a reflective tape to allow for the reflection pickup, the laser is so much brighter than white light tachometers. I have used this tachometer in bright environments without any problems. If measuring a black object you can draw a thick line with a sliver sharpie marker and not even bother with the tape. No white light tachometer that I've used could do that.

Easy to use, laser light nice user friendly feature, Repeatability not quite as good as my expensive pro model, but for the price - fantastic product!

I bought this to work on my boat engines. It has good range, accuracy and is easy to use. You need a contrasting stripe on the crank pulley, but some white sticky tape is included. A good product that can take being dropped into a grundgy bilge and still work (but not look as pretty).
