I had read so many nagative reviews regarding this item that i almost didnt purchased it. However I sidnt see any other latch that would me my needs which was strenght, simple and auto latch in both directions. The only thing I foung close to that was the pool latch and that would not work for my little kids next door whose ball or toys find their way into my fenced in yard. When the dogs are not in the yard they retrieve their stuff but sometimes forget to latch the gate. So dispite the negative reviews I decided to purchase this butterfly latch think i may need to make some mechanical modifications to meet my needs. Well guess what, I didnt have to do a doggone thing to it. This device strikes and auto latche in both direction, forward and backward when the wings are down. The secret in my case is the distance between the gate and the post which is 2 3/4.. At this distance there is still an inch of wings to secure the gate. So in my opinion all those negative reviews are how do we say Fake News! Highly reccommend this product.

I have no complaints about the product at all, it's sturdy and it came quickly. Absolutely no problems there, EXCEPT it won't work with my fence/gate. It says in the description that your gate post and your fence post has to be at least 2" apart. Mine are, but it still wouldn't fit. My posts would have had to have been at least 1/2 to 3/4" further apart.I was bummed, I really wanted this to work. This was the ONLY issue I had, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

This is a good latch for chain-link fence gates but be sure that you measure the pipe sizes and distances, those have to be spot on.Cannot believe that the local big box hardware store had never heard of this!

Allow at least a 2" gap between gate and fence post. I had to maneuver my gate so that the hinges were turned inward in order to install the latch. Not the makers fault I just placed the fence posts too close.

Didn't work for what I needed, but will keep for future use. Seemed well built, to me. Substantial.

Could not find a decent model at the big box stores. This latch is solid, not flimsy, with a decent galvanized coating. Works as it should. Cannot go wrong purchasing this latch. Make sure to purchase the correct size for your application. Cheers.

After several searches i decided to try this one and boy is it awesome! It worked beautifully where others did not. I tried to make others work but this one is made better and doesn't get hung up on itself. 5 stars all the way!

Sturdy worked great after a little WD40 and some use.
