It looks like the camera is always on.** A: When you see the light the camera is on. Turn the camera off and the light will go off. **Q: I need to use this on a desk. Do I need to buy a camera mount for this. If so what is recommended?** A: As you note by the picture, the camera can sit on you desk, but may sit too low. The picture may also be deceiving because it implies it is fixed in this position when actually it can be bent in several positions. The camera is designed to sit over the top of a laptop or monitor so there is no purpose-built mount available or necessary. You can put it on anything or do what I do. I prefer this camera over my built in laptop computer (it swivels & can be moved around without fooling with the computer lid). After i'm done using it, I remove it & store it behind my computer. This also adds a safety factor so if anyone hacks my camera, all they'll see is desk or back of the computer. I hope this helps. The camera works for anything you should need a web camera for so give it a try & if you're not happy, return it. It installed it very quickly and Skype instantly recognized it (on Windows 7). The picture quality is fantastic even at night under normal house lights. The kids loved the special effects that the camera can generate with stretched faces, hats, cats faces etc which are also transmitted through to the other person on Skype....that has given plenty of amusement already. My daughter (11) so loved it, that she actually parted with her own money to buy herself one which speaks volumes.The flex mount works well for my monitor and her laptop. The lead is slightly shorter than my old webcam but is still long enough. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great for low light and general purpose ... *by S***E on November 27, 2012* For the price, this is one great little webcam. I use it for Google Hangouts and it really does the job - it's clear and smooth and works remarkably well in my low light environment. The audio pick up is very good too - I actually remote to my PC via my Android phone (using PhoneMyPC) and "listen" into my house. I can hear several rooms; great to check on the babysitter or just to make sure everything is ok.
