Love the book.
Like the message of the book. If we all work together we can make things happen. My class loved all the sounds!

Great intro
This story has an introduction to different music terms, incorporated in the story. Great was to teach terms to kids.

Cute but son found foreign names and instrument sounds annoying
This was a cute story and overall fun to read. Having said that, it's probably not a good choice for a struggling reader. The foreign names that defy English pronunciation rules were very frustrating. Charlemagne. Fortissimo. Etc. Our son also found the repeated instrument sounds wiggling round the pages -- pootpootpoot, poot -- deedlediddledoodlediddledeedle... etc -- to be annoying. And we were both wondering why much of the dialog is ascribed to the horse?Borrowed from our friendly neighborhood public library.Go libraries!!!!

bad music must go!
The king has had it with his group of musicians. They sound awful together and he has decided that they must be thrown to the crocodiles! Music is also banned from the kingdom. Join this group of musicians as they set out on a quest to save themselves and end up bringing music back to the land! In the back of the book there is an authors note with information about the musical instruments introduced in the story. This would tie in nicely in a classroom during a music unit.

lots of fun to read with your kids
My four-year-old twins LOVE this book. They've assigned us all instruments (son takes mandolin, daughter harp, Dad takes sackbutt, Mom has contrabass recorder), and they LOVE to "play" each part as it comes up in the book. Then for a grand finale, we all "play" together. Most of the fun is in making the instrument sounds, but it's definitely one-of-a-kind.

How delightful!
With some animated reading, this book will quickly become one of your child's favorite! It's very fun, well written, and has great illustrations. It was a wonderful surprise to stumble upon at the Symphony Book Store in Chicago!
