The Great and Secret Show

so imaginative
I used to be a huge Clive Barker fan when I was younger, but struggled with this book and eventually gave up. I never read any of his books for many years after that. It wasn't until I bought a copy of The Scarlet Gospels, which I loved, that I decided to re-read Clive's books. Weaveworld was as amazing as I remembered. Imajica blew my mind. (Maybe the best book I've read.) And then I came to The Great and Secret Show. What was wrong with me all those years ago? This book is incredible. Non-stop imaginative dark fantasy, horror madness. Beautiful prose and such sights to show us. Yeah! Yeah! Wrong book I know:)I've been on a Clive Barker reading binge. Eleven books in a row, now. What a brilliant writer!

A unique mythology
I read this a few years ago and was interested to revisit it. However it isn't quite as good as I remembered it.Clive Barker creates a unique sense of mythology in his books, there is the sense of entering an exciting and slightly dangerous world. This one is about the battle between two individuals, which becomes a battle between different elemental forces that they represent. If you do like it, there are another two books in the sequence.

Bought the kindle edition after deciding to revisit some reads of the past. Just as good as I remembered.

Out there.
This book is very imaginative. It's well written but I found the protagonists difficult to like.I thought the idea of a dream sea quite compelling. And the strange creatures that inhabit it were both bizarre and interesting. If you're looking for a sci-fi horror novel that's a bit different then look no further. But be prepared for some disturbing and slightly disgusting scenes.
