To summarize...if you have the right JIS tool bit then the this impact tool is a fabulous impact tool. Read the instructions carefully and it should do what you want. Use JIS hardened steel bits. **Q: So does this impact work well for american philips screws, or only jis? and is the rubber grip effective at keeping your hands safe from the hammer?** A: JIS bits work well with Phillips screws. The opposite is not true because a Phillips bit will not seat fully into the JIS screw head. The rubber grip is better than nothing, but it's not going to stop you from whacking yourself with the hammer. **Q: Do the bits conform to the jis b4633 standard or to the newer jis standard?** A: I am not sure of the difference or even that the Japanese standard had changed. My collection includes a variety from Craftsman to the lines offered by Lowe's and Home Depot, as well as my father's old tools. While all are decent, none have felt as well-crafted as this one, perhaps with the exception of Snap-on. The weight, fit, finish, and even the included bits impressed me. Using this impact tool was an incredible experience; it loosened a stubborn screw on my Suzuki with the first strike. I was astounded. Although another driver might have achieved the same result, I have my doubts. The included JIS bits gripped as if I had applied super glue to the screw head. I immediately began searching for more Vessel products upon unpacking this tool and even purchased a set of JIS Phillips impact screwdrivers that same day. They, too, are remarkable. I regret not discovering Vessel sooner. Now, I'm eager to buy anything they make. I had no intention of purchasing more tools before this, but this impact driver has proven its worth.
