Too fast
I would have rated this hoist 5 stars, but for one reason: The hoist rotates too fast for my use. I primarily use this to remove my grass catcher from my mower, which requires "inching up slowly" to make sure the mounting studs clear the mounting holes before proceeding.Once they are clear, the speed is fine, but this hoist starts at full speed. In order to reduce the speed enough, I went to a "block and tackle" arrangement I put together, consisting of two pulleys on the bottom and one pulley at the top, and it works OK. But I wish it had either a slow start provision, or at least slower speed. In my case, that created another problem, and that concerns the heavy red circular safety device, which stops the hoist before the hook gets wrapped up in the hoist. Great idea, but it only works if you lift straight up with the hook. It gets in the way if you attach the hook to the frame in the provided slot, in case you add a pulley (or pulleys) to slow down the speed. By the way, the illustration shows exactly that.In my case, since I attached a pulley at the top, along with the hook, I had to completely remove the safety device, and there is only one way to do that. Namely, by cutting it off, not a simple process, since it is solid steel, and then it is no longer usable. Perhaps there might be some way for Grizzly to make it easily removable, thus allowing its reuse.Other than that I am quite satisfied with the hoist and the control.

Good Value for an Electric Hoist
First, the hoist came quickly and completely in good packaging. There were no issues opening the box and finding the parts. It also worked flawlessly from the moment I plugged it in. It seems these things cannot be simply taken for granted anymore, so they bear mentioning. Why 4 stars instead of 5?1- The mounting brackets come designed to fit 1 3/4 inch square steel tubing. What's wrong with 2"? I have 2" lying around the garage, and I feel it's more common. 1 3/4" is fine from a strength perspective, but I don't even know where to buy it.2- When used without the pulley, the unit pulls to one side. It would be nice to have bracket mounts that correspond to the angle of lift using the pulley (which centers the lift beneath the brackets) or without the pulley (220 lb mode but faster) which pulls to one side.3- The damned control cable is too short! I have a 12 foot ceiling, and I can reach to 8 feet on my toes. The crummy 5 foot cable leaves me standing beneath the load I'm lifting. (Guess what my next project is!)4- The lift speed is too fast without the pulley, which is fine for me because I need it due to issue #2, but if you need to set something down precisely and gently, plan on using the pulley.

Love This!
Product was as described, and shipped fast! Took a little effort to install it to use the way I wanted it, but really not difficult. Read some reviews that say its noisy, but I see most the noise is from the cable rubbing itself as its wrapped around the spool. I cut a hole on my garage ceiling, and build a recessed box to install it, reinforced with a steel tube. As for the review that said "I need another hoist to get this to the ceiling..." I think its pretty lite to carry, however, I built the box and mounted the hoist on the garage floor... BUT... this is a hoist, so I put the hook in the attic, and used the hoist to pull itself into place. while doing the drywall in the recess box I build, I made a seat to attach to the hoist, and rode it like an elevator instead of using a ladder. Also, someone wrote it was really hard and tedious to change from 220lbs to 440lbs, but its not difficult. you just use the included pully and hook, and hook the cable and hook to the unit. easy and took about 2 minutes. I am using it to lift and store my truck cap (topper)... and so far, I just LOVE it. My dad uses nothing but Grizzly tools, and now I see why! I would give this product more than 5 stars if I could.

Back saver!
Built my storage "shed" with an attic. after many years of hauling decorations up and down the ladder, figured it was time to "work smarter, not harder". Laid a 2x2 piece of steel square stock and attached this to it along with opening up the floor and "Viola" instant lift! Seriously back saving! The only things are, the power and remote cords need to be longer as do the mounting bolts!

Good Winch
This is a good/great winch. I've used this since purchased to hoist and hold a storage platform (about 200 lbs.) to the ceiling of my garage. It's holding power is great. I'd give this a 5 star rating but I really wanted a winch that had a remote controller (infrared or such) but have not been able to find one. Also, the stop and start motion is quick and jerky and I would prefer a smoother start and stop.

Noisy
I bought this to make a hoist to move things in and out of my attic storage. It work fine but is very noisy. I built a small lift platform and ran the cable through two pulleys. It saves me having to carry heavy boxes up and down my step attic latter. Other than the noise I have no complaints and will live with the noise for the convenience.

This unit failed without a load. The first time I raisedd the empty hook it broke the raise stop and will only pay out now. I view this aspure junk. This unit is indoor, never subject to moisture or abuse.
