Southern States Currency (Official Red Book) Spiral-bound – June 1, 2006

Well written, short, good use of illustrations. One of the few authoritative writings on the subject. Citable for research purposes.

The one and only book that covers all currency issued by every Southern State before, during, and after the War Between the States. An invaluable resource for thee collector. This book does not cover Confederate currency but there are several books that do that.

Reference book.

Although advertized as Spiral Bound it is just that. The Spirals are covered up but turning the pages is just as difficult and they will tear if not careful as the pages are perforated to accommodate the spirals. The book is a Hard Cover but Publishers went cheap in putting it together. A Paperback Edition would have been much easier to use and less expensive too. This is a book on Southern States Currency...that is individual currency from each State and does not include Confederate States of America currency so you may be disappointed. You would assume by the Title that it would contain all types of Southern currency but it does not.

Seems to be missing some of the currency from the period.

Hugh Shull has done a superb job in assembling vast information on Southern States currency. This high quality book has excellent descriptions and photos and is an essential reference book for all collectors of Southern States obsolete currency. Especially helpful are the rarity ratings and the estimated values.

The author took the time to really update the subject matter, even though it has been a few years since this book came out, it's still the best.
