This was the issue.
Worked like a charm. Changed out the starter and the solenoid on a 2002 vtx 1800 r, and now it starts every time.

It was a faulty part!!!!
The mechanic put it on the bike and it didn't work. He tested it and wasn't getting anything

Works fine as expected.
The mount holes were not oval as the original and required opening up in order to use both mounting bolts. This was a challenge as most of my tools are still in storage, but was accomplished with hand drill. A bit messy, but effective.

Doesn't work and mounting tab is broken off.
It's the correct part but doesn't work when installed on bike. The second one I ordered worked good. Sending this one back for a replacement
