Great barre, cheap hardware
The barre is smooth, sturdy and has a great adjustable feature. It can be used in 3 positions- normal, low and high, to allow for more or less pressure on a stretch, or different sized dancers at the barre. The barre can also be stored up or down on the wall to clear space for centre work, or other activities. (note: I have 3/16 mirrors installed on the wall with hidden mounting hardware and the barre cannot snap into place to store- it pushes against the mirrors. I just let it hang down without snapping into place to store) The barre itself has a soft grey finish that gives a gentle industrial look, perfect for my home gym in a garage that also has a squat rack and a pilates area. The vita vibe sticker can easily be pulled away for a clean look. Why not 5 stars?1) It is difficult to adjust. The pins are hard to pull out. They do not easily release and I often have to grab a few different ways and pull multiple times to get both to release. Because they are hard to pull out of place, I have to do one at a time, instead of both at once. They also do not go into the next slot easily, and I have to pull the pins a few times more once I have moved the barre to get them to snap into place. This is annoying, but still worth it to have an adjustable barre. It is just not quickly adjustable (30 sec rather than 3 to move it).2) One of the bolts snapped in half during installation. We are experienced at installing bolts and other hardware, and this was the first time this happened. Clearly cheap bolts. Of course this happened after hours on the weekend, so there was no use contacting the company or waiting for a replacement bolt of similar quality. A failed attempt to dig out the broken bolt end and to drill through it with a special drill bit (purchased for this issue) led us to buy a new bolt and place it next to the broken bolt stuck in the wall. This made installation take about 2 hours, not including the trip to the hardware store, rather than 30 min. For $150, I would expect a $2 bolt not a $0.25 bolt! I don't know if this is a common problem, or we just received a bad bolt, but including better quality bolts would solve the problem. If you do buy this barre, consider buying your own bolts. In summary, I am glad that I bought the barre and I would buy again- but I would also buy my own mounting hardware!
