Review: power probe is truly the best. - I bought this so it could work in conjunction this my other power probe. It works fantastic. I've added this to my arsenal. Power probe actually has YouTube video to show you exactly how it works. Once you use it a couple times you will get the hang of it. I have found shorts on vehicles ATVs RVs. Behind panels and no one would have ever thought it was there. I found possible shorts in the future that I was able to repair before giving me issues. it gives you everything you need from extended wires ,attachments ,different plugs it's a fantastic . probe you're the best.
Review: This product will pay for itself many times over. - I've seen this used on YouTube to find a break in wiring so I figured I'd better get it. This thing paid for itself the first time I needed it. My Dodge Charger came home with one headlight not working. So I figured it was a simple bulb change, nope! It was something with the wiring. I brought the Power Probe out and traced the headlight wiring back to the module and bingo, found a bad connection at the module. I know if I had taken my Dodge to an electrical specialist, it would have costed me for sure. Great product to add to your tool arsenal!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does it work to detect why the battery keeps being drained?**
A: I HAVE the same tool but this tool is designed to locate open or short circuits that are constantly open or short circuits, not intermittent parasitic drains on a battery like a rear wiper motor sometimes parking it self while the vehicle is off. A digital multimeter is better choice along with a good training video and a clamp on amp probe. Use vehicle specific specs due to differences in model maximum current specs usually no more then 50 miliamps. Also a fully charged battery and wait time of an hour so modules can go to sleep. Also to gain access to all fuse boxes the doors and hood must be rigged in a way that tells the computer that they are all closed. Don't overlook a possible internal battery drain by isolating the battery from the vehicle, checking voltage after a couple hours to see if dropping voltage. Be sure to consult a good training video.

**Q: Does it work on 48 volts**
A: it works on 12 to 42 volt systems

**Q: Will this work in a vehicle with the old style glass tube fuses?**
A: Yes, the kit includes an alligator clip which should connect to the old style fuse leads.

**Q: Does it work on a holiday trailer with metal siding? I have a dead short in the tail light wiring harness.**
A: For the ECT 2000 to work it must have the 12 volt supply from the vehicle that the trailer is attached to. The transmitter is hooked up to the circuit that is blowing fuses. The receiver picks up a signal as it is guided along the good part of the circuit until the receiver loses the signal at the short. It is noted that the receiver will NOT pick up on wires going though metal walls. Make sure the wiring is correct with a diagram and check the light sockets for shorts.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ You still need to understand electricity
*by T***B on February 28, 2011*

I bought this to help me trace a short in the rear defrost circuit of my car. I have a decent understanding of electricity, but I have a hard time finding grounds and shorts. In the end this product helped push me to find the trouble, but it didn't pinpoint it exactly. For example when I disconnected the rear defrost wires at each end and injected the signal at the fuse panel, I got a signal along both the ground wire and the lead wire. I didn't understand it at the time, but the two wires had shorted to each other in the wiring harness, a fact that would have made sense earlier to someone with better electrical troubleshooting knowledge. It took me a couple of hours to find the trouble and to understand the Power Probe signals, but at least I found it. I bought this to hopefully avoid tearing into wiring harnesses, but in the end I had to open several harnesses and track individual wires to find the trouble. I'm giving 4 stars because the Power Probe helped push me to find a problem when the dealer wanted $100 just to look at it, and I know the dealer would have replaced the whole wiring harness that I simply repaired. So in the end it saved me money and helped increase my electrical skills.
