Naya Nuki: Shoshoni Girl Who Ran

Naya Nuki The Girl Who Ran
I read this book in grade school, and now my daughter is reading it in her class. We decided to read it together. I remembered enough to summarize this book, but what I remember the most is being scared for her. We just finished this book. From beginning to end this book is an excellent paradigm to opening children’s minds to the true reality that anything is possible if your willing to work for it, even when you don’t feel like it. This 11 year old girl survived 1100 miles on her own in the wild Rocky Mountains, all extremes of weather with only her will and her wits to reach her goal. It also is excellent in teaching circumstantial adversity and understanding that we do not know what tomorrow brings. Naya Nuki is an inspiration to all, and everyone should know this true story. This triumph of the human will. This never give up mentality. This mind over body extraordinary girl who now inspires men and women everywhere. This book is an unbelievably exciting, historically accurate, unprecedented, unimaginable, beautiful read. My daughter is now asking to go visit the trails describe in the book where Naya Nuki traveled (heart warming to a parent). I hope you enjoy reading this as much as my daughter and I have.

Great Book, I loved it!
I read this book, Naya Nuki by Kenneth Thomasma for a school project. At first I though that it would be like any other book that I would read for school, boring and not interesting, but after the first chapter I loved it. I was always reading it in my free time. This book is about a little Indian girl named Naya Nuki who was taken captive by the Black foot tribe. She was taken 1,000 miles away from her home she escaped and ran for hours and hours trying to find her way back to her home. She traveled 1,100 miles by herself and found her tribe again! This girl is only 11 years old!! This book is a great book for girls from the age of 5-12 or even 13 ( depending on your kid and what they are interested in ) it is even a good book for boys. Over all I would highly recommend this book. It is amazing!

Amazing True Story of SUPER Brave Young Girl
This is an amazing book, I had to do a person for the wax museum and my mother told me about Naya Nuki so I read this book and I absolutely loved it. Yes, there are some intense moments throughout this book however they are easy to "downsize" if you happen to be reading aloud to a smaller child. While this is a great book no matter your age, I recommend not reading until the age of 12-13 because once you reach that age, you can fully appreciate the beauty and power this book contains. It might sound lame or a bit nerdy to say a book contains power and beauty but I find that when I read, the time goes by quickly and if I have to put down the book to do something, I very much regret that I can't read faster and promise myself to work on it so I don't have to put down a book again. I love that this book is not only an inspiring story of unity and self-confidence, but also a true story. This definitely made me respect the Shoshoni Indians way more than I did because these guys didn't try to stay fights and wars like a lot of other Indian tribes did, they liked peace. I'll quit ranting now, I'm sure you're all bored of my review of you didn't just look at it and go 'that looks to long.' Thanks for readin' y'all! Love yas!

A favorite book as an adult
This is one of my all time favorite books! When the going gets tough and I face adversity I often remember this story. Incredible. I feel very spoiled and pampered in my modern life. Primitive living and hardship brings you closer to God. I especially appreciate this book now, living in northeastern Nevada, in the land of the Shoshone and thousands of miles from my family. I share this book with others as often as possible.

Great book about a girl surviving and thriving all alone
We are studying early American history and I have girls. It is nice to find a great book on American Indians with a girl as the heroine of the story.

A delightful and worthwhile read
I never heard of this book before this year, but we have loved it. Purchased this book for literature class for 5th grade son. We read this one together (though the reading level is not too advanced for most 4-6 graders. Even though it was a story about a girl, my son was really interested! Fascinating story-telling, worthwhile life lessons, great history and Native American culture story. I highly recommend this book!
