This works great on English walnut.
This is a great alternative to real tung oil. The primary benefit dry time. Real tung oil takes days to completely dry, whereas this takes only a few hours. The color change of the wood this produces is similar to that of tung oil. This product, like real tung oil, will darken your piece slightly so it might not be the best choice for black walnut. However, it is a great match for lighter walnuts like English walnut.

Great, quick tung oil finish
After creating a Nakashima-influenced coffee table I struggled a bit getting my 100% tung oil finish right. It had trouble totally curing and dried unevenly. Since I live right near the Nakashima studios, I stopped by during their open tour hours and spoke with one of the craftsmen there. He informed me that they no longer use 100% tung oil on their furniture and showed me a can of the Cabot 8099 and told me how easy it was to use. After some light sanding with 320 grit on my piece, over a two-day period I put two coats of the 8099 on and now my table looks beautiful! The finish came out totally even and has a great shine, without the plastic, thick look of poly. That's exactly what I wanted.I had used other "tung oil finishes" before but this Cabot performed and looked the best. The only drawback was the odor and the stickiness while drying, but given the results I can deal with that. Great product.

This stuff is stain. Not Tung Oil. Junk.
This stuff is just a dark colored stain. It says "Clear", but it imparts a dark brown color. It does not add any vibrancy or deepness, just a dull dark brown color. This stuff is junk. The ingredient list does not show any tung oil at all.

This was purchased because it was cheaper than other Tung Oils I have used in the past. I have experience with various finishes and finishing systems and I have to say this product was a disappointment. First off the smell was much worse than others I have used and did not dissipate for days. The polymerization of the oil took longer and I struggled to get an even look using a method of working in with 0000 wool and allowing the product to start to air dry then buffing. Other Tung Oils I've used take about 5-10 min till they have drag to a cloth pulled over the work piece. This product took 20 min which may not sound like a big issue but in a busy environment that is too long. I will not buy again and will be shy to lower priced products.

If you love natural wood
This is the tung oil Nakashima studios recommends its customers use. It allows the wood to be itself, more healthy, and it awakens the beauty of the patterns. If you love natural wood, this works! What it does not do is put a layer of plastic between your fingers and the pores of the wood this means, you will need a coaster or tray for your coffee cups, and glasses of cold drinks. To me, it's worth the effort.

Nice end result on my wood
I'm using this on a mantel piece I bought. First time I've done so. It seems to be bringing out the natural beauty of the wood, but I do believe I'll finish it all off with a clear polyurethane finish cause I like the shine, but this product is wonderful if you want to really see the wood thru your finish.
