Screenplay: The Foundations of Screenwriting

This book covers almost everything you could ask for, and for me the biggest plus point was that it wasn't as rigid as Save The Cat. The three act structure is defined very clearly, other concepts relating to character development are also really well written. The writing here is logical and up-to-date, and breaks the concepts down to really tiny bits for everyone and anyone to consume ;) Overall, this is a great book for a beginner who is thinking of getting into screenwriting.

This book is comprehensive and builds your skills in screenplay. One can opt to buy this book. Classic book to learn screenplay elements and everything about screenplay before you proceed to write a screenplay. Definitely value for money. I got the paperback one. It is nice.

There are lots of screenwriting books out there but this is the book from where you can start your screenwriting journey. I read it probably ten years back but again I have bought it and recently read again. If you are a novice writer you should start from this book and even If you are seasoned one you can back to this one again and again.

This is one of those standard textbooks of the subject that requires little introduction or recommendation. Suffice it to say that it takes the reader through the three-act structure of a movie script in great detail. It is full of valuable insights for the fledgling script writer as well as for someone who is interested in the mechanics of writing a script for a film. This is your gold standard as far as introductory books are concerned. If you are serious about pursuing the subject I would also strongly recommend Robert McKee's 'Story' and John Yorke's 'Into the Woods'.
