That is an old construct and there is great change afoot in the prehistoric man process. The differences between a Neanderthal, Denisovan, Homo erectus and us is not nearly as different. That means that Neanderthals and Denisovans are part of my ancestry and I am their viable young. Kind of throws a monkey wrench in the lock step view of evolution. But that's science.
