I was so excited when I found this sanitizer on Amazon. The price was reasonable and its small size was a plus. Once I received it in the mail, I used it and was initially pleased by its performance. Having studied the effects of UV sanitation, I was confident that it would work well. After about 2 weeks, the cleaner died and would not turn on. I changed the batteries and after about two more uses, it shut off and would not come back on. Additionally, I found mold growth in the seat of the cleaner (only two weeks) and knew immediately that I had been duped. I made sure my brush was dry before placing in the cleaner and had to subsequently throw away my toothbrush. This product does not clean the toothbrush as claimed and instead is a convenient breeding place for bacteria to grow.

Most bacteria growth can be stopped or reduced with only 30 seconds of UV exposure. This thing blasts it for 6 minutes. Anyone who has taken a microbiology course will recommend this in a heartbeat. The batteries last quite a while as well. Loofas or Bath toys can also be set outside on a sunny day to inhibit bacterial growth. I recommend once every two weeks or so.

EDIT 2019/08/06: Got the new one, saw the same metal blobs in the light housing. Realised no filament in there (must be gas, then). Then realised the batteries were the problem. So, now I've got two working units. Four years and still going!---Worked flawlessly for four years. Occasional cleaning every few months. Change rechargeable NiMH 900mAh batteries every 6 to 8 weeks.Last use, the uv light did not switch on. Changed batteries, but still no light. Opened it up and saw tiny metal blobs in light housing. Assuming burnt filament. I'll look for a replacement, but I'll also just buy a new unit (faster).

Works most of the time. Sometimes it fails to light up and i have to open a close it a few times. Then other times that it fails and doesn't come back on I usually end up replacing the batteries. It seems like it goes through batteries every month. Need to get rechargeable batteries for this.I also find that I need to wipe it out at least once a month. I see some yellowish stuff on the inside near the bottom of the brush. A quick wipe down and it is good as new.-------------------Update----------------------------------------------After about a year it drains the batteries every day. I think it just turns on but doesn't turn off anymore until the batteries die. Looking now for something else.

Research today has proven the link between a healthy mouth and various diseases and after a microbiology class in which we looked at the what grew on a typical toothbrush after 1 month, 2 months and 4 months of use without cleaning it regularly, I was appalled. The amount of E.coli was extremely shocking and when you brush your teeth with a toothbrush that has not be effectively sterilized you are introducing all of this bacteria back into your mouth. This product helps puts me at ease when I brush. I use this daily to clean my toothbrush along cleaning my toothbrush in the dishwasher once a week. This is a must have for people and I think that everyone should own one. UV light has been proven to kill microbes and this product provides light for about six minutes which is more than enough. It turns on when you close it and turns off automatically. I found that it lasted about 3 months of off one pair of batteries so I good buy.

I was excited to have this item as I am going through chemotherapy and I have a lowered immunity and thought this would be a great tool to help keep my toothbrush clean. I bought two and they both worked for two or three days then the batteries died. So I replaced the batteries and they worked for one time and not before three or four attempts at opening and closing the device which is what I think is the key to turning on. They both then died and no matter what I did I could not get them to power on. Replacing batteries did not work. Sent both back for refund the second time.

My wife used this product while she was on chemo to help prevent mouth sores. I suppose it worked, but by the time she was done with chemo it stopped working. It ate batteries like crazy, and by the third set of batteries it stopped turning on. Would not recommend.

I purchased two of these 2.5 years ago, one for home and one for work. They're still working fine though the door of the one at home doesn't stay closed on its own any more; I have to put a small object on top of it. The one at work's fine, but it doesn't get the same level of use as the one at home.The door problem is my only complaint. I wipe out the toothbrush area once in a while to keep it clean and the batteries last about a month with twice a day usage -- but that's a small price to pay for a clean toothbrush. These are also great for travel because of the small size. I'm going to order a replacement for the one at home.

Seems to work fine. Light comes on after a variable delay which seems odd but I seem to have had fewer gum niggles since using it. Batteries need changing quite often.

Just bought it to satisfy my inner cleanliness freak!! Toothbrush emits foul smell after sensitization!!! Why?? Does the foul smell means it has been cleaned!! No power switch off button !!

Does what it says it will but bit annoying the LED light stays on for 6 minutes when you close the lid AFTER using it.
