Great reference Book

The beginning of the book made me think that I made a bad decision buying it because it focused on a lot of really basic stuff. However after chapter 3 it starts getting good.The book really is comprehensive and covers all aspects of tear down and reassembly with discussions of machine work as well.Keep this book nearby during every step of your rebuild to reference along the way.

This book was of most use to me as a starting point before reading other books before starting an auto restoration project. Even though I understand how an engine works, this book forced me to take more time to actually think about what each part is doing. It also helped teach me some terms and names of parts that I was a little unclear on. Because I had read this, I was able to understand the info in other books more easily.This book is about as generic as it gets as far as what engines are covered. With that in mind I think the author put together a very good step by step process. As long as you don't expect this book alone to walk a complete novice through the rebuilding process.There were many times where photos and pictures were used, but I though there could have been a whole lot more. The author is very knowledgable about this subject. I wish he would have added more personal preferences / tricks that he uses when doing a rebuild. I would rate this book 4 stars for how happy I am with it, but I don't think this book would be very useful for anyone with much engine experience, so I degraded it to 3 stars.
