Anthopogenic Climate Change is a Hoax
I loved this book and it has changed my behavior. I am committed to supporting sustainable agriculture and organic growing methods. 15,000 years ago our planet was covered with continental glaciers. The Laurentian glacer covered the eastern part of our country all the way down to the Ohio river. The White Sox play in Chicago which was at that time under one mile of ice. The Cordilaran glacier covered the Northwest. Then massive global warming happened. The continental glaciers retreated to polar regions and mountaintops. This was before the agricultural revolution and before the industrial revolution, so when our ancestors were still hunting and gathering, the actual global warming can't be blamed on human action. And this was not unprecedented since we live in an ice age that has periods of continental glaciation with interglacial periods in between. We live in the 23rd interglacial period. We can expect the glaciers to again start covering our continents, as had happened historically and in pre-history. Ms. Lappe does not recognize that human action is insignificant compared with the natural forces that govern and change our climate. I do love this book! And the princlples she explains are in agreement with everything else I have learned in my life.Art Rathjensince 1939

Very important read for environmentalists
This book is packed with great information, and provides a necessary reference for reducing our carbon footprint, especially when it comes to food production. The print is a bit small and faint, but it's well worth the effort to read it.

Subject matter could not be more topical -- nor better researched.
I don't think I have a friend who does NOT have a copy of "Diet for a Small Planet" on his/her bookshelf. We all remember the ten-tons-of-corn-to-grow-one-ton-of-beef equation. This book (penned by the daughter of "...Small Planet") is just as important. Similar message, but updated to educate us about the real costs of the agricultural (and related) industries on our enviroment. Her research is dazzlingly extensive (but not overly scholastic), her message VITALLY important. Especially valuable are her rebuttals to the agribusiness positions, which she shows are often based on innacurate and misleading "facts." All Environmental Studies programs should include this book in their courses. So should Econ programs. And, sadly, PoliSci programs.

I didn't know that....!
There's much more that I can do on an individual level to at least move in the right direction. While my individual actions alone won't amount to a hill of beans in the grand perspective, they will in my individual life--that I've done all I can do to bring no harm to Mother Earth. If enough of us act in concert, then we are also a part of a new momentum--and that is the only action that has ever brought change.

Diet for a Hot Planet
Great book. Loads of information about how what we eat and how it is produced affect us all. I have a better appreciation of sustainable agriculture not just organic. Some of the info is a little unsettling regarding how the systems of agriculture are manipulated by government and large agricultural companies. I bought the book for my Kindle but after reading it I knew I needed it in hard copy to keep and make notes in. So I purchased the book twice.

interesting read
I have not completed reading this book but it is important for all interested in how to eat right and protect the planet. There is climate change and there are companies with product whose activities in producing gene manipulated food that have the potential to poisen those who eat it..

Great book.
Great book, well researched but will easily date if not constantly reviewed. A criticism would be that it is too USA centric and totally ignores the emerging markets such as China, India, Brazil and ASEAN. Never-the-less, well worth reading.

Should be required reading for all
As a vegetarian and environmentalist, the contents of this book were not a surprise overall. But there were lots of great examples of things being done right, inspiring stories and projects. With lots of recommendations in the last part of the book for how to get active.
