I probably would have waited until she was older but the fact the BBC were making them into a TV programme prompted me into buying them earlier. I wanted my daughter to use her imagination before she saw the TV interpretation. As it happens we only got through two of them before the TV show started so now we are reading them at the same time. The order of events varies a bit (TV vs the book) but it is educational to see how things are adapted to make a TV programme. My daughter thoroughly enjoys these books and they are well targeted at her age group. Each book varies in length, with the shortest ones manageable in one bed time read. We will definitely be reading all the others. They are also quite frequent illustrations (every page or two) so are a good transition from picture books.
