Electric Countertop Induction Range, 120V, 60Hz, 1800W

The construction build quality of this induction range appears pretty good compared to the others. It has a strong, loud fan for cooling the electronics, which is a very good thing from my perspective. Better noisy and cool than quiet and overheated!Where this product disappoints is that the temperature control knob allows adjustment in 20 deg F (or 30 deg F) increments. This does not allow for fine control of the temperature. To make it worse, I'm not convinced that the temperature setting actually monitors the temperature at all. I believe it is just an approximation of the assumed average temperature of an item at a predetermined power level. I varied the temperature knob for my cast iron pan and took measurements and the effect was the same whether I had it in the "power" mode or the "temperature" mode. Engineers call this "open loop" operation as opposed to having a closed feedback loop controlling the actual temperature of the item. When I set the temp to 140 deg F, my cast iron pan came to a steady state reading of 300 deg F! How could that be if there was an actual thermostat controlling either the heat output or duty cycle of the heating coils?The output lights indicating the mode of the unit were swapped between the power and temperature modes also. Not sure if it was a manufacturing or a label printing problem but either way, it's not reassuring to see problems like this.If you need an induction burner that is well built, has a large cooking surface, easy to adjust controls, and don't need temperature control, then this is a good choice, but if you need temperature control, look elsewhere.
