Incredible style
Sorayama might not have invented the "sexy robot" genre, but certainly made it his own. His photorealistic style brings gleaming metal to life at the same time that it honors classic "pin-up" imagery - something you have to see to believe. I've admired his work for many years, and was very happy to see this beautiful book at a modest price. It's not full "coffee table" size, but big enough that the hundreds of images here can be enjoyed fully.I had been familiar with Sorayama's sexy robots, and with some of his merging of gorgeous models with gorgeous metal. This showed me a wider range of his work, though. The range starts at cheerful pinups, progresses through scantier clothing and alluring poses, then heads on beyond clear erotica into areas with a darker edge. I can't help admire his visual technique, but don't appreciate the elaborate restraints he so seems to enjoy. Some images make me wonder whether a mad scientist and a master machinist started making adult toys, and had to tie down the alpha testers to see the gadgets work. Having seen so many gorgeous models displayed in distressing situations, I go back to his human/machine mergers and see a darker side I hadn't recognized before. As much as I like so much of his work, I really could do without the more fetish-y end of his range.-- wiredweird

Well worth the 20 bucks I got it for back in the day.
Has a lot of pics. So many that each time I go through it, there are more that I do not remember seeing before (even googling etc for them). The pictures are not captioned so I cannot look up a particular pic name on the web for more info etc. The color is a little lacking, but for the original price it was well worth it. The paper is not a thick gloss paper like in an art history/ other collegette book which is one reason the color is not as saturated or vibrant as the original works. The book and bounding is more like a really thick paperback novel. This makes one annoyance where some pictures are spread across two pages and because of the way the book is bound you cannot open the book flat. Of course some of my more favorite pictures are smaller than others. It is not one pic a page. some pages have 4 pictures or so. If there was a follow up book that had Sorayama's works since '03 I would pic it while still in production.

Amazing artist
Amazing artist, great little book, amazing amount of images. And yes, there are many many erotic pics; some are a little hard core.I think the book is great, and some of the narratives by other artists are cool. I just wish the Japanese was translated on some of the pages-I’d love to know what it says!

Torture and Tease
I must say that the book is well worth the buy for its content, however its small size and matt paper only make you wish they would make a highgloss Taschen Type edition to do it justice. The other reviews are pretty much on the money. You will appreciate it as a ctalogue of Sorayamas devine collected work but will hate it for the size and compromise of quality. I am delighted to own it, I am angry it is small and of low quality paper wise. Not a rip-off, not a bargain, just a disappointing tease solely by format.

Truly complete Sorayama collection in a high quality tome
Great book. Very good quality pages, though the binding is a bit stiff with some pages containing art that moves into the spine portion of a page... and being that this book is quite thick and not a hardcover, if you are like me, you will be reluctant to fully open up a section for the risk of wearing out the spine for future use... even if it is personal paranoia and preserving the book's quality.Although it is marketed as a softcover book, the cover itself is a sort of semi-firm material... firmer than your normal "thin cardboard" paperback cover. The book feels sturdy and well put together. There are a few reviews on here downrating the book based on personal taste. You have to know who Sorayama is before buying this.Specifically 2 points. Sorayama is, and has always been known as an erotic artist... and he is Japanese... that means a heavy Japanese influence on erotic themes/concepts.... and since bondage has a long history of artistic representation and influence in Japan... you are getting a collection of work that includes significant portions of very meticulously detailed bondage pinups, and images that may seem extreme or taboo to some in the west, but have a common "awareness" and acceptance in Japan. That is not to say that that is all he does. There is also his genre (specifically sci-fi) art... but there is also the commercial work. This book is truly a full and complete collection of the artworks of one of the all time masters of airbrush painting. The only Sorayama book you will need... and even if there are artworks in here that do not appeal to you (some of the commercial work does little for me simply because of its commercial nature), there is plenty to choose from, all beautifully painted. If only this were a hardcover AND larger in size, it would be perfect.

Sulla recensione della casa editrice sta scritto "... including a lot of new illustrations.".

A chunky book
I've always been interested in Sorayama's art style, and been contemplating buying this book for awhile. finally took the plunge and bought the book, and I'm glad I did. At 462 pages, there are a lot of pictures that cover his career. it's amazing how detailed the pictures are, a testament to the man's skill. My only complaint/negative point is that I wish the book was a little bit bigger in page size, but that's a very minor point. i would recommend this book to anyone looking for a great art collection book. A warning though a lot of the pictures can be very sexual or extreme to some people, so if you're not into that, keep it in mind if you're getting this book.
