Very convenient for storage and arriving at a job site with everything you will need. **Q: Can this be used as a buffer, polisher for metals like brass, stainless steel etc?** A: 25,000 rpm is not a good speed for polishing. Most polishing equipment runs much slower, for brass 3000 to 6000 rpm is mentioned. Surface speed is the important metric, diameter of polishing tool plus RPM determines surface speed. 7,500 feet/minute is a good starting point. Variable speed is definitely a needed option for polishing various materials as the optimum speed changes depending on the polishing compound and the material to polish. Bottom line - this tool is not a polisher **Q: Could I use this to take rust off the underbody of a car?** A: Yes you could do. I use mine to grind down synthetic porcelain on insulators that I have just repaired at electrical power stations. For that price, this is a very decent die grinder from a reputed manufacturer like Makita. The first thing you are going to notice when you switch on this grinder is its exceptionally smooth motor. I have used Bosch GGS 3000 before. This one is much smoother than the Bosch. In fact, it is less nosier and smoother than my Dremel 4000. With 400w, it is fairly powerful too. Bosch GGS 3000 which costs more than 6k has only 300w. Overall build quality is good. It weights 1.9kg including the power cable. The power cable is 2.5m long. It does not have a variable speed option.The black boot on the neck of the grinder is made of rubber and is removable. The tool comes in a corrugated box along with two wrenches, a 6mm collet and a collet nut. The only problem was the pathetic dealer network of Makita India. The dealers of Makita in Bangalore are nothing short of thugs. I am not sure about the other cities. So, if you are buying their tools online, warranty is always a concern.
