Good One

I think Tig Notaro's brand of comedy becomes funnier and funnier the more you get to "know" her. I've seen Tig perform on different shows and various stand-up-y kinda events, but it wasn't until I started listening to "Professor Blastoff" (her amazing podcast- definitely look it up and start listening!) and heard her "Live" set that I really *got* just how funny she is and how her personality works. I'm a HUGE fan of Jim Gaffigan and I also love Louise CK (more so when he gets into storyteller mode) and I like their observant kind of humor, so Tig is sort of a natural part of that.She's very observant, and wry, and honest. She's not the kind of comic that will yell and exclaim over different things. Instead, she makes these quiet little observations about people and the world and they are just so *right* on that it's hysterical.Of course, the best bit on the CD is the Taylor Dayne story. Also, the various interactions with the audience (especially about self defense and sharks). But there's so much funny stuff here, it's easy for me to recommend the entire CD. Especially great for listening to in the car - my husband and I listen to a lot of audio books and comedy in the car (our nearest "city" is about 45 minutes away, so it's the perfect length of time for a comedy set) and Tig's great for that.I can see listening to this over and over, as well. It's just good stuff. Highly recommended.

Much like  Todd Barry , Tig Notaro has a very dry, laid-back, almost emotionless delivery to her comedy. She tells jokes the way someone might mutter a complaint about the length of the line at a deli. This isn't bad, per se, but when a comedienne decides to go neutral with their delivery, it means the funny either has to come from the contrast between the deadpan delivery and the nature of the material, or the jokes themselves have to be very good indeed (see  Steven Wright ).The jokes here? Meh.The first fifteen minutes of the album are a rapid series of throwaway observations. They're cute and clever, but not really laugh-worthy. The kind of comments that, if your friends said them, would have you nod and smile and say, "Yeah, that's funny," rather than actually guffaw out loud. (Can You Believe It? and No Moleste are the best of the bunch.) This is followed by a 12 minute story about Taylor Dayne that is amusing but, again, not in the way that will get you to muster any more energy to laugh at it than Tig uses to tell it.The best section in the album is a twelve minute interlude where Tig interacts with the audience on self defense classes and the nature of shark attacks. You can really see her comedic muscle in this part, not the least because you can actually hear her amusing herself and pulling out past her standard monotone delivery. The last six minutes are some cheesy impression jokes as well as a repetitive ending that culminates in people singing happy birthday to her three or four times in a row.She's got a very companionable and warm delivery, but the substance just isn't there to sustain it over a single, let alone multiple, listens.

I love this album. When it comes to Tig it seems people either love her or don't get why everyone else likes and are left confused. I get that. The incredibly dry almost monotone delivery she has isn't for everyone but I certainly love it and this album was great. Personally I think it's worth owning just for the Taylor Dayne story. It is so funny I was in pain near the end. That track along is worth the entire purchase price.But don't think that is the only reason to pick it up. The entire album is hilarious and that story is just the main course so to speak. Like I said Tig may not be for everybody but you have to at least give her a shot and you might love what you hear.

I'm a big fan of Tig from her various appearances on the Comedy Death Ray/ Comedy Bang Bang Podcast, and her own Podcast, Professor Blastoff. Her dry yet quick witted sense of humor shines through in her act, and her stories are hilarious but not over the top. It should also be noted that there is no cursing at all on this album - not that it really matters to me, I have a foul mouth sometimes, but I give extra praise to comedians who are still hilarious without relying on bad language.My only gripes with this album is that it's a little short, and I had already heard bits and pieces of some of the jokes from following Tig, but that's fairly typical with comedy.GOOD ONE TIG.

Perfect to throw in during road trip. Even though older material, if you haven't had a good dose of Tig, this is Hilarious stuff.

Several people who are my artsy friends recommended this booklet. Although it wasn't quite up to the hype, it was quite funny and entertaining.

I like Tig. And this is good stand up. I would also suggest Live, which I would give 5 starts too.

Tig Notaro is a comedic genius. Her delivery is so perfect.
