For a gallon the easiest way I've found is place 4 or 5 (any less is too weak for me) family size bags into a 12 cup Mr Coffee coffee maker. Run it through once and empty into gallon pitcher or gallon water bottle then run another 12 cups of water through the same tea bags. Makes a gallon. I drink a gallon of ice tea daily and for me this is the best way for me. Easy to clean up too.

what size is "family size"? gallon? half gallon? quart?

Also just a little bit of help they have you make the tea with 1 quart of boiling water 1. So it can steep 2. So what ever sugar your going to use will dissolve. Then you add the other 3 quarts of water. 1 bag = 1 gallon

I like making sun tea. Are these bags ok for doing sun tea?

I have been making sun tea for many years and these Lipton bags are my tea of choice. I use 10 bags in a gallon size glass bottle and I brew the tea in the sun for two hours. A little longer than two hours if it's a cool day in the mid-70s and a little shorter if it's a hot day nearing or exceeding 90°.
