NANDINA Twilight Nandina is native to eastern Asia and commonly known as Heavenly Bamboo or Sacred Bamboo. Despite its common name Nandina is not a member of the Bamboo family but is more closely related to Berberis. Nandina Twilight is an erect, compact growing, semi-evergreen shrub that will reach a height of approx. 4 feet with a spread of around 2 feet after five years. An enchanting pink flush in spring followed by shades of bronze, green and white give a spectacular appearance to this wonderful newly introduced variegated cultivar As temperatures drop in late autumn and winter the foliage colours become even more intense. Although grown mainly for its handsome foliage Nandina Twilight carries sprays of small, dainty white flowers in summer and these are occasionally followed by bright red berries in autumn Easy to grow, a sheltered spot at the front of a shrub border with moist but well drained acid or neutral soil is ideal but Twilight is also adaptable enough to make an interesting and colourful container plant on the patio where it will provide year round interest. Drought tolerant once established. A low maintenance plant, simply prune or cut back any shoots that spoil the shape of the plant in late spring or summer. Non-invasive and weather tolerant makes Nanida Twilight perfect for today's smaller gardens. All pictures used are of mature plants and may not necessarily reflect plants at all times of the year.
