A book for those who want to move beyond the basics of tapestry weaving
I have several books on tapestry weaving. Some are for the very beginner. This one is not; it moves into more advanced territory, which is what I wanted. It includes chapters on "Getting Started", "Equipment and Materials", then moves into more advanced techniques and how to create your own designs for tapestry, as well as caring for tapestries. She provides a history of tapestry weaving, which I enjoyed reading. The book ends with a chapter, "Inspirational Work from Contemporary Tapestry Weavers", which I also very much enjoyed, as it shows many possibilities of creating through tapestry weaving. It has good color plates throughout, a glossary, and index. If you want a simple "How to" book, look elsewhere. If you want a book that gives you possibilities and inspiration for tapestry weaving, then this is the book for you.

More inspirational than instructional
But VERY inspirational. Would have liked more details on how the special effects were achieved. Words are used to explain many things which would be better grasped with illustrations.

Inspiration
excellent book on Tapestry Technique, but even more incredibly inspiring by presenting many contemporary weavers that can show you that weaving has evolved out of the dark ages and into the new age.

Title is misleading
This book very good information on tapestry joins, fixes and finishing. The tapestries featured are primarily abstract. I would have given this book a higher grade but was very disappointed in its treatment of designing. Although the subtitle is โDesign and Techniqueโ there were actually only 12 pages out of 180 devoted to this. Some of these were devoted to color theory, not design. The chaper on translating designs to tapestry deal with enlargement, inking and warping.

Best Tapestry Weaving book I've seen in a long time.
Book is interesting, has pictures of other artists' work, along with good instructions on how to build your own loom and also how to use different types of looms; good instructions on the weaving and design process. I like the abstract tapestries, haven't seen any in other books. All around good book.

Great Resource
Bought this book to be able to teach beginning tapestry weaving at an SCA event this summer. So far it has given me the information I need to write up the class notes and to teach me more about the process.

Brilliant
This is a fantastic resource if you are familiar with some of the basics of tapestry weaving....they are covered but the complete novice might do better with other books. This book, as the title suggests, is really aimed at the design process and how that translates into technique. There are lots of lovely photographs to inspire you and ideas for some of the more unusual techniques. There is also a really good section on finishing and mounting the finished item. For me, this is a must have in my small woven tapestry library.

Tapestry Weaving, The Way Forward
I have found this book, inspirational, a brilliant reference guide and the layout of the book is excellent. As an Arts and Crafts tutor, I would recommend this book for students of all levels, learning tapestry weaving. Today many students are introduced to tapestry weaving by day workshops and may come from a textile related background of say knitting or fashion design. They aim to learn the rudaments in a short time, so it's vital they have good related texts they can refere to. The author has chosen to show a diverse range of textile artists. Well known designer Kaffe Fassett was featured, the students were familiar with his wonderfull use of colour in his knitting design, so they could easily relate to his work and were facinated by his woven design. This book enriches the student's learning experience. Although sadly, we have lost some of the traditional tapestry courses. I feel that when we have authors who can compile books with such sensitivity and depth of knowledge, tapestry weaving will still evolve and people will still want to explore this skill and art form.I have a copy of this book to show my students when I run workshops, it's also on my suggested reading list.

Technique and Inspiration
A lovely book to use and browse. I ordered it after seeing it and borrowing it from a friend. As I am new to weaving it gave some easy to understand instructions on 'how to do ...' and the photographs are inspirational. A good book for both beginner and more advanced tapestry weaver.

My wife the weaver
I got this as a pressie for my wife who weaves. You need to be aware its a broadly based book including as its title says Tapestry. So check it first. The designs in it however are useful for inspiration and ideas.
