Digital Citizenship in Schools, 2nd Edition 2nd Edition

I feel as if I am reading an infomercial, "The nine elements of digital citizenship were identified after evaluating hundreds of articles, books, and news broadcasts related to technology use, misuse, and abuse."Say this once in an introduction, along with the other often repeated points, such as teachers and education leaders needing to adopt and enforce more specific standards, not again and again throughout the book with an ominous "Things are only getting worse; we must act now to save the children!!!" tone. Present ideas factually and with support instead of trying to convince everyone that some 'sorta' extensive research was done. The author firmly believes there is a need for a digital curriculum, more than likely packaged and sold, (perhaps with his name on it?)The book reads like a rant. I would like to have seen more direct research and theory from leaders in the field given to support examples presented. Without that consistent internal and direct support, it's just someone with an opinion ranting about it ad nauseum.

I liked the graphics and the way the author organized the many digital citizenship topics. I recommend it for any teacher using technology with their students. I am a technology educator and that is the only subject I teach.

Ribble provides a good overview of the various components of digital citizenship, but some of the lingo needs updating and many of the links no longer work. He provides good tips for supporting teachers in the integration of technology as well.
