DOJ Approved
I had to buy this gun safe because my handgun collection is growing and I was unable to fit the 5 new handguns I bought this year. My old safe which I still use can only hold a certain amount, so I needed something that can hold at least 4 handguns and this safe does that plus it holds 3 boxes of ammo and a few spare magazines and best of all it's California DOJ approved, if it's good enough for these anti-gun nuts here it's good enough for me. The instructions are easy it only took me 2 or 3 minutes to set-up, it comes with 2 override keys, I hide one where no one will find it and keep the other one with me at all times. Whats in my safe? I have total of 5 handguns in the safe bottom shelf1) Beretta M9_ FullSize pistol2) M&P 45_ FullSize pistol3) box of 45 ammo ( 50 round box )4) box of 9 ammo small box of 25 roundsTop shelf1) Rossi 461 snub-nose revolver2) Kahr CW 9 with spare magazine3) Sig P238 with spare magazine4) 3 Beretta M9 magazines5) small box of 380 ammo and speed-loader and some keys.IMO I think that's a lot of stuff your able to fit just have to play around with it. I'm very happy with this purchase and price is excellent, this same safe at my local gun shop sells for $50 dollars more plus tax, I suggest buying from Amazon.

Nice size, holds more than expected, but packaging needs improvement
Box is well made, holds more than expected. nice big code display plate, easy to operate. Bought for my husbands 40th birthday present, I was not to happy when he opended it and a large dint along with a deep scratch easily noticable on the front door. Would be an inconvience to ship back and possibly get another damaged box, so husband settled for this one. With all the prior complaints I was hoping I would not get a damaged one, but sometimes this is how the cookie crumbles. You would think amazon would take heed to the packaging issue or at least provide a discount for those that end up keeping it.

Safe seems nice and it shipped double boxed though there is not ...
Safe seems nice and it shipped double boxed though there is not a lot of packing around the safe itself. UPS treated it well. If dropped, it could have been a different story. I know Amazon would make good on any issues though. After reading all the goofy ways one could get into safes like this, it was nice to find one that did not have a reported problem with this. I have one grip about the safe that I don't like that they seem to describe as a feature. That is that each time you lock the safe a new code can be assigned. I told my wife the code, she locked the safe and then tried to open it. At that point we just got the bad code message. I opened the safe with the key, reset the code and then was testing it out again. That was when for some reason one key press did not happen (have the beep turned off) when I locked the safe and the code was changed. If I had not been paying attention, I would not have known what happened. I then went back to the manual and saw the part about the new code each time it is locked. So if you are not paying attention your plan of using the same code each time could backfire on you and you will be looking for your key.

Perfect for My Needs
Could not be happier with this purchase. Great quality, easy to set up and the additional shelf makes it very functional for storage. Purchased to store handguns primarily to prevent grandchildren form having access to them. Read a lot of reviews and mixed satisfaction with other brands. This one is a little more expensive than a lot of the other safes of comparable size but well worth the money. Would highly recommend this product. Like that it has both a key pad and emergency key override plus a 7 year warranty. Overall a great home safe.

instruction could be more specific about how to use the emergency keys.

Good safe for the money for its intended purpose.
Good option for California DOJ compliance for safe firearm storage. The non-CADOJ version is around $10 cheaper.Pros:* Not too small and not too big. Just right for 2-3 pistols and magazines.* Able to mount the back to the dry wall with wall anchors and self tapping screws for the base for a secure mount.* Motorized locking. Harder to defeat than the conventional manual type, that can opened by simply tapping hard on the top of the safe.Cons:* Need to install interior motion sensor LED light to see pistols and mags. You can't see the interior if your room light does not project directly into the safe.So far in 1 month of use, no issues in locking and unlocking. Comes with a pair of override key.I had to place a support call when I could not initially open the safe for the first time even though the manual states the safe is shipped unlocked. The issue was a shipping plastic on the corner edge of the door that stopped the door from freely opening. Support recommended tilting the safe to release the pressure on the door and I was finally able to open the door after a bit of difficulty.*** Please note that this safe was not meant to keep jewelry or other expensive items in event of a burglary or fire. The steel is thin and the safe is not fire-rated. This safe is simply a way to comply with California State law in keeping firearms away from children and unwanted/prohibited persons, while providing you quick access to your firearms if needed.*** If you apply some common sense in the placement of the safe, and hide and secure it adequately so it is not so obvious in a quick smash and grab incident, the safe should provide ample security for anyone needs.
