Bryan Cranston stars in this crime drama based on US Customs official Robert Mazur's autobiography. The film follows Mazur (Cranston) as he goes undercover to infiltrate the money laundering operations of drug lord Pablo Escobar. Assuming the identity of successful businessman Bob Musella, Mazur promotes himself as the man who can turn dirty cash into clean. By laundering money for the drug cartels he hopes he will be led directly to the most powerful men at the top of the chain. In his new role as an undercover agent, Bob sets up complex networks of investments to protect the drug dealers' money and as he works his way up Escobar's organisation he is forced to go to new lengths to protect his cover and continue his mission. The cast also includes John Leguizamo, Benjamin Bratt and Diane Kruger.

Great cast and story let down by lack of drama in storytell ing
Since the success of "Breaking Bad", there have been many more film releases to view starring the excellent Bryan Cranston, which is no bad thing as far as I am concerned. This film based on true events plays to his strengths as it is an undercover cop/drug related story where he is the key undercover cop Bob Mazur. It is historical being set in the 80s when the US law enforcement and DEA in Florida was grappling with the enigma that was Pablo Escobar and his drug empire's runaway success in selling cocaine in the USA and conveys that period well. This is especially the case in the depicting of the BCCI banking network which helped the Escobar empire launder their drug proceeds internationally.Cranston is easily the main big name star but in a generally little known cast the whole ensemble delivers great performances from his own police colleagues (especially his "Jekyll and Hyde" colleague played with gusto by John Leguizamo) to the Colombian criminals from the street brutal to the noveau riche suave, being all well cast. The only grating performance is Cranston's female boss who if she really behaved in the manner depicted was lucky to have such a dedicated team to carry her through. What lets the film down is while it tells the tale well, I actually didn't feel much tension or excitement as the story unfolded. I don't think this is down to the acting or even the script more than how the film is put together in its storytelling. It is more concerned in covering all the key facts than creating and leveraging up the drama. It may be that Brad Furman as director and producer with his wife as scriptwriter was just too dominant in the process and needed to be more controlled but it is no surprise for me that on release in 2016 the film sadly struggled to recoup its original budget.

Who was who?
Found this confused and without much character outline. All the Colombians looked physically similar and the entire film felt rushed and disjointed. From a promising beginning it seemed to stumble and fall into incoherence. What the Santeria, being afro-cuban, scene was about and why it was included I have no idea. Bryan Cranston always watchable however not on this occasion.

Only the key characters earn the 3 stars.
... A fan of Bryan Cranston, so bought this DVD immediately. Really want to like this film, but poor directing skills, not very good story telling - confusing and disjointed. Hence it's hard to have the emotion engagement with the development of the story/characters. Fortunately the skin-deep performances from the key characters such as Diane Krugger, Benjamin Bratt, and of course Bryan Cranston draw my attentions to their inner emotion turmoil, otherwise this film only deserves two stars the most.
