I will always buy Hoover
Let me start by saying, I hate carpeting. But until I can afford to re-do my house in hardwood, I'm stuck with the bloody stuff...ugh! May as well keep it as clean and good looking as possible, right? I'm also OCD and have two giant hairy Newfoundland dogs. Great combo, eh? DOH! I steam clean my carpets usually every two weeks. I've probably bought more carpet cleaners than the average bear over the past 40 years. I'd blow through Bissells = one per year. I've had the best success longevity-wise with Hoovers, hands-down! My last one lasted 4 years with the above-mentioned cleaning schedule....not bad! When it died, I scurried to Amazon to snap up another, although my model was no longer available. I decided to try this one, and thus far it's doing the job! The water tanks are smaller however, so for example, while a tankful used to get my dining area done, THIS tank requires 3 refills to do the job. However, the suction seems much stronger, so I guess that's a good trade-off, if inconvenient. This model really pulls deeply embedded doghair up that the vacuum didn't get, too! It's somewhat sleeker, lighter, and easier to manuever further under furniture pieces, as well, compared to the last Hoover I had. I didn't "get" what some reviewers were saying about it being bulky or cumbersome (?) So overall, my only criticism is the smaller tanks that require re-filling/emptying frequently, but the powerful suction it has feels worth it to me. My carpets look cleaner and fluffier than ever. You know that "clean feel", and "fluffy nap" they have when they are truly deep-down clean? Yeah....like that.

Great machine, but not for everybody
First of all, this machine is very heavy when filled. The waster/solution tank is huge, and is mounted in the handle. When you release the handle to use it, it is quite heavy, so I would not recommend this for a small or weak person.Other than that one main concern, these is a lot of good to this machine. As I said, the tank is huge, but it also last a long time. Uses a fraction of the amount of solution my Bissell pro heat pet used, and does a far better job.Instead of a rotating brush, it has several smaller brushes that spin horizontally. It does not leave wads of hair and fiber behind like my Bissell did. Also, you have an excellent view of the dirty water tank, so you can clearly see how the job is progressing. The result for me, was incredible. I was about to throw out my carpets, but now they look brand new by comparison. One annoyance for me is, as the dirty water tank starts to fill, if you bump anything, or jostle the machine, there is s valve in the tank that will close and suction will stop. You then have to turn the machine off, wait for it to completely stop, and you will hear the valve plunk back into place. The you can restart and continue. Towards the end it gets very sensitive, I had to do this a dozen times or more.Small price to pay for a machine that has a very strong motor, is very easy to load with water and solution, very easy to dump the dirty stuff, and clean that tank(the dirty tank splits in half for ultra easy cleaning), has a very long cord, and is not insanely noisy.Comes with a bag of upholstery tools and a hose. The best part of that is, it is not built into the machine, and you can just put the bag somewhere until you need it.Got mine on sale for $150.Came with a small bottle of shampoo which lasted a LONG time. So, in summary, a strong machine that will give great results, but not something I want grandma operating.Besides, if you have a grandma, do the carpets for her.

Great cleaning
Great cleaner. I read the reviews and have noted a issues that others have had.1. Water leaking from spin brushes after use. Place machine on thick towel or on edge of sink or tub, squeeze solution trigger until all residual water drains out. I lay mine on its back for a day after use, so it dries thoroughly.2. Parts sticking after use. Rinse all removable parts in clean water. Manually spin carpet brush to keep the brushes from sticking after use.3. Motor overheating during use. Clean the lint screen that is located behind the removable floor nozzle. It is on the right side of the machine when facing the machine. Be careful, the screen is flimsy.4. Follow all maintenance recommendations in owner's manual. These methods have been keeping my machine running smoothly for a long time. Purchased mine from Home Depot with extended warrant, but, so far, it runs fine.
