Use em for all my snares!
Ive played with s-hoops for years because they dont chew up my sticks as fast when i crack rimshots constantly... they're a tad closer to the drumhead offering a better rimshot and bite w a focused sound...the only way these could be better is to make them fully diecast instead of just triple flanged hoops. Then they would be perfect!!!! Still love em though! Got one for every snare i use!

Not Quite What I Had Hoped.
I got this hoop as way to improve the sound of my Pork Pie 14 X 4.5" maple snare. The hoop is really well made and for some snares, it may actually really take the sound of your snare to something near a cast hoop. However... on mine (in particular)... there were somewhat negligible improvements. I will say that if you have ever smacked a finger on a traditional rim it really stinks. This rim will prevent any sort of cuts or blood blisters if you're prone to that. I can also imagine that the ~1/2" overhanging lip of this will gather a lot of chewed stick debris. So... to maintain consistent sound quality from your snare... you'll likely need to flip it over and evacuate the shavings every once in a while, or they'll build up.

It is all around better. Rim shots are easier than on the stock ...
Wow, this made a huge difference in the sound of my Gretsch Taylor Hawkins snare. It is all around better. Rim shots are easier than on the stock hoop and much more distinct. A lot more tonal variations are possible. Side sticking has more volume. Contemplating getting more for my other snares.

An excellent upgrade for any snare
Solid, extremely playable and damned fine looking.

The soup is a nice balance between die cast and triple flanged hoops
The soup is a nice balance between die cast and triple flanged hoops, of which the latter, I prefer. Opened the drum up a bit and was very easy to tune.

Improves sound, saves your wrists and arms from fatigue, makes the drum play easier, and saves sticks.
I didn't buy this directly from Amazon. Anyhow- I had one on one of my backup snares- one that was okay quality that i didn't use much even after I bought it (used). I hadn't played it for a couple of years. I pulled it out for the heck of it to use on a practice kit. and after about a week I was just floored once i got it tuned right. I liked it so much that I ordered one for my two main working snares. Here it is- you will save money in sticks- because if you use any amount of rim, this is way less damaging to your sticks- even against other "safety' rims. It has a great cross stick sound to it as well. And for use where you are using "finesse" rim work- like jazzier parts- it has a phenomenal sound. All rim work from heavy- quick single stroke rim shot rolls to single powerstrokes take less effort.again- with rims shots it also absorbs a lot of the shock that would go up your arm as well- less wrist and arm fatigue. I replaced my die cast hoop on one of my favorite main snares with this. I am also using it on a 46 year old classic snare. The lip of the hoop also works well if you use "zero ring" style dampeners as it keeps them in place well-you can even transport with one on without losing it.For the record- I am using these on- a 1971-72 vintage COB 6.5" rogers Dynasonic, A late 90's Brooks-Mayes import (rogers) 6.5" maple snare. And a frankenstein-ed mid 80's Rogers 14X10 (converted 8 ply maple tom) with dynasonic throwoff and snare frame setup. All with very different setups obviously down to heads being different and this thing improves the sound and the feel and saves your sticks and arms and wrists.
