細かいカット割りでストーリーを展開して見せ、時折、遠景の景色が見開きで現れます。 その景色の不思議さといったら。やわらかい鉛筆デッサンで描かれた世界は、ノスタルジーとぬくもりに満ちています。 時代背景、登場人物についてまったく説明がありません。この絵本を捲る時々によって、いかようにでもストーリーの解釈ができます。というか、そのように読者の想像力を膨らまさせてくれる素晴らしい絵本です。

手元に置いておくだけで幸福感に満たされる、そんな一冊です。 文字は一切なく、セピア色のシンプルなコマ割りは 映画のフィルムを透かし見ているような感覚です。 ひとつずつ切り離して、コマ送りで見たいなぁと思ったのは自分だけでしょうか。 どこかノスタルジックな異世界の、別れと出会いの物語。 表紙をご覧いただければ分かるとおり、奇妙な生きものとの微笑ましい交流も。 「エリック」や「棒人間たち」といい、こういう不思議生物が好きなんでしょうね。 オディロン・ルドンが好きな人は思わずニヤリとするシーンもありますよ。 読み手の想像力次第で如何様にも膨らんでいく世界観なので、 読むたびに新たな発見があるのもいいです。 ちなみにこの本、文字がないのになぜか翻訳版が出てます（笑） 買うなら絶対にこの洋書版。装幀の質がまったく違うので。 洋書版の装幀はデボス加工（凹み）に一部ニス引き（ツルツル）、 古書の肌合いを意識した素敵なデザインです。 ページを開くその前から、不思議な世界に引き込まれますから。
