Thompson & MorganKalettes® Garden Mix F1 Hybrid Seeds

Grew them for the first time in 2020. Excellent taste and hardy plants. Needs good support and protection. Remove limp and yellow leaves as the plant grows so that the shootings get more light and mature faster. Toss them in with a bit of oil and garlic and add soya sauce the last minute. Don't over cook-although they look tough they get tender really quick. After collecting, soak in water for half an hour or so (creepy crawlies come up to the surface..), rinse and drain well and put them in a plastic bag. Keeps well in the fridge for up to two weeks!

I've never grown kalettes before but a friend recommended trying them. I have germination, looking forward to growing them on.

What I was after seed wise only reason for 3 stars is the delivery cost

Bought these seeds as I had run out of them. Previously bought a packet from a garden centre last year. Packed in 2023 - use by 2025. The seeds I received at the end of March were packed in 2022 and needed to be used by 2024. Given that they should be sown in March, April and May not a lot of time. I’ve contacted Thompson and Morgan and they seem to think that this is acceptable. I buy lots of seeds from various different companies and they always have a much longer shelf life. I will not use this company again as they simply don’t care.

Grew enormous and cropped for ages. I had good germination and gave a lot of healthy seedlings away to friends who all loved the nutty florettes. I kept 6 plants and kept myself and two friends supplied throughout winter. Yum

These seem to be growing well, despite being in a raised bed with a lot of clay soil. The slugs don’t seem to be that interested in them either, although that could be because they are too busy munching on my Chinese cabbages In the row next door!

These are growing nicely in my garden but won’t be harvested till October.
