Ridiculous Clubs At A Terribly High Price - Don't Be Scammed
Let me start by saying I'm 52 and have been playing golf casually for four decades. I've owned only TaylorMade irons in all that time, but recently decided to buy a new set for my vacation home so I never have to travel with clubs. I thought I'd try something different, and I pieced together a set that ended up being just under $2K, including this set of irons. Ugh. Value for money here is awful. You can do much, much better and you shouldn't even CONSIDER paying $800 to $900 for this set. Club face looks like it has years of play after ten ball strikes on the driving range. The iron faces on SOME clubs - in my case the 6- and 7-iron - look particularly chewed up, and it's not removable range ball residue/plastic. Feel, performance, distance feel like my wife's "bargain" all-in-one set (interestingly, a Cobra set) that included bag, irons, driver, hybrid, putter, etc. for LESS money than just this set of 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, PW, GW, so definitely nothing special here. Grips are needlessly slippery. It's almost like these are golf clubs designed to be a prank on whoever is buying and using them. I've purchased Cobra drivers, fairway woods and hybrids for my kids in the past and they've performed well, so I had higher expectations for this set of irons. I also read glowing industry/trade reviews on these clubs, and now feel that the positive reviews must be paid-for golf propaganda, unless the reviewers simply don't care about durability or longevity. Pretty disappointed in these and I'm sending them back. I pity the unlucky golfer who ends up with these, but I hope they at least get them at a steep discount because it appears the club faces are anything but durable. Some advice for any beginners out there: a certain model or brand of golf clubs will not help you play good golf. Forgiveness? No. There is virtually no such thing (at least not as a major differentiator from one MODERN club model to the next) making the claims little more than a marketing tactic. Learning and focusing on the fundamentals is all you need to do. Buy the cheapest set that feels good to you and then go read Ben Hogan's "Five Rules of Golf."
