This product is about what I expected. It's made from wood and brass and it does the trick. There's not a whole lot of room for design when it comes to a marking gauge and many share the same or similar design. It looks good. It's solid wood and brass so there is no worry about it breaking. The tightening screw sets nicely so you can reproduce your measurement on the wood you are marking. I'm happy with the purchase.

Everything about this product is "Quality". The wood is beautiful, and the brass is striking. Everything slides, tightens and marks precisely. I am very pleased with this tool and would recommend it to anyone needing a quality marking gauge. It is a beautiful addition to a craftsman's tool box.

I was hesitating when I saw HB carries this for only $9. However the quality is so much different. This one is cut clean and the tunnel is smooth but does not feel loose. I love this tool.

This is an attractive, well-designed tool that will last for decades. Quality materials include brass and hardwood. It is well worth its cost.

I was a little worried that this was just a show piece, pretty but loose and inaccurate. Happy to say it is not. Wood parts or solid and metal components are firmly seated. Bonus that it looks nice as well!

Not a good first impression, see the picture. As the other 2 star reviwer pointed out, the beam is impossible to get square accurately. It can be adjusted sqaure and verified but easily moves out of square. Vertically, it is not possible to get square. I like the heft and brass inlays of this gauge but it's just made cheaply with typical Chinese (lack of) quality control. Will be returning.

I had high hopes for this tool, the price and features were right and material is solid, but the tool is poorly designed: the fence cannot be kept square to the beam, there is about 3/16 in of play at the top of the beam when fully extended and is because the beam is too small for the fence block. I could glue up a couple of thin wood strips to the sides of the block to tighten the beam, but I do not expect to have to rehab a brand new tool. Returned, sorely disappointed.
