The debut EP from Phoenix, AZ's The Word Alive is packed with raw screams of anguish and technical instrumentation that deliver exactly what their hungry fan base has been waiting for. They've shared stages with A Day To Remember, The Devil Wears Prada, and Blessthefall. The band's career went into overdrive when they enlisted vocalist Tyler "Telle" Smith (ex-Greeley Estates and In Fear And Faith).

-EXCELLENCE IN A CD-
I bought this album not really having any idea of what to expect. The first few listens were alright.. I noticed sounds that were similar to TDWP, but also unique to them. I finally sat down and REALLY listened to this album and...WOW... these guys are great. Both singers compliment each other very well and bring out A LOT of emotion in there songs. The passion is very evident, and makes it hard for me to not start jumping around and rockin out. They have a huge amount of potential and are REALLY stepping up the genre. I still love bands like UNEARTH, PARKWAY DRIVE, TDWP, AS I LAY DYING, etc... but The World Alive brings a cool new sound that has not been overdone and brings elements that have been only slightly used (TDWP). Their next release should be absolutely fantastic and I can't wait!! Any fans of metalcore (Or even just great musicianship) buy this album and give yourself the time to really appreciate the the passion and technicality that goes into this music!!

Amazon recommended this. Seriously...
I gotta say; I'm skeptical at best when it comes to Amazon suggesting things to me when it comes to my taste in metal, but every now and again they actually get one right. The Word Alive is definitely one of those recommendations.I didn't even know who these guys were when I saw the recommendation and actually, I was more attracted to the price of the mp3 download at first. I took a listen to their samples and I bought the album. I figured even if it sucks, it's just five bucks.Wow; complete surprise! I felt pretty jazzed to know that I got this album for only five dollars. The members of this band really come together and are very talented; I'm looking forward to future releases from them.If you're a fan of In Fear and Faith, Bring Me the Horizon, Under Oath, Parkway Drive... just good metalcore, then pick this album up. I know some people use the term Emocore, too; but whatever. Music is music and if it's good; I'm listening to it and adding it to my collection. For those of you that like to lift, this album is AWESOME to lift to.

Great band/Good album
This band is pretty great. They're a Christian-BASED band. They do talk about God, but they also talk about other things, so you can't really call them a Christian band. They're a pretty awesome band, and this album is pretty good. I would recomment if you like metalcore.

Very good EP
This is one of The Word Alive's best albums because of the low screams and the lyrics and also the reason that they just sound extremely amazing.

Just Doesn't Cut It
In a world with millions of bands, to just toss out some songs with the usual sound doesn't impress me no matter how good the production is. Yes, this band is somewhat of a super group (somewhat), but that does not make it good. They have to write good music first and that was not done here. The songs were well produced and the band worked hard, but that alone earns no more than two stars in my book (perhaps a slightly harsh judgement, but it stays). When it really comes down to it there are just too many other groups that sound exactly the same. A band has got to leave a mark and has to be memorable; instead, they just get lost in the crowd. Now I listen to a lot of Metalcore and Post-Hardcore or Screamo or whatever you want to call it, and I usually like what I hear. I'm the first to say "it doesn't matter if they sound the same as long as they do it better," but a lot of bands leave these guys in the dust (blessthefall, A Skylit Drive, old Greeley Estates - it's a bummer Telle's in a worse band now, but he got out before Greeley went bad so I dunno which is worse). I listened to the clips on Amazon and really liked what I heard so I bought the CD, but after one listen I haven't picked them up again while I listen to some of the afore mentioned bands daily.I'd be willing to give 'em a try again if they stepped it up a notch or two. (like A Hero A Fake) That would be nice, but right now...forgettable.

(3.5 stars) Potential Coming out the Pores
I randomly stumbled across The Word Alive by following links from other bands on myspace and man am I glad I did. The [...] scene gets pretty stagnant, lets just make note of that. With that much distortion in the music and seemingly every singer trying to burst a blood vessel with all the screaming, a lot of bands give off a "been there, done that" feel. Then every once in a while you come across a nice unique band and this is what The Word Alive is. The clean and dirty vocals are both good, especially the cleans which remind me of the clean vocals from Underoath or Saosin with respect to the quality of the dude's voice, the dirty vocals are pretty generic but not bad. The true shining point about this band is the music. There is an interesting use of keyboards and the guitar work is pretty interesting, as with most of these bands the bass is not really all that memorable and the drums have your healthy dose of double bass. The songs are catchy with emocore sensibilities in song lyrics and delivery. So far what I described sounds kind of average but then there is that element that you can only feel - not describe. That's the feeling of potential. The songs stay stuck in your head, the guitars got a good blend of technicality and chorus and the clean vocals can make your hair stand on edge but the feeling I get when I listen to this band is that if their chops get even better with touring and their song writing skills in all aspects mature a bit more, they can put out an album that would be among the top released of whatever year it would be. With that being said, it's a good cd that gives a taste of things to come, my favorite songs being How To Build An Empire,Inviting Eyes, and Battle Royale.
