I am shocked at all the 1 star reviews
This was really good. Keanu Reeves plays an interesting character, Lucas, an American diamond merchant, in Russia, in the midst of a huge sale to a Russian Mobster, but it is going terribly wrong. He is under pressure, and it takes him to a small Siberian town in search of his partner who is missing with the diamonds. And there he meets a beautiful young Russian woman, Katya, who falls for him instantly and in a big way, and he recruits her to help him. So, he is using her, but at the same time, he feels for her, and they really do bond. The dialogue is very good because Lucas is candid, direct and unequivocal; and he gets right to the point whenever he speaks. He's like Kramer from Seinfeld except without the the clumsiness and clownishness. So, there he is, alone in a strange land, transacting with criminals in St. Petersburg and contending with Katya's protective brothers in this small Siberian town. And he has trouble communicating with everybody, including Katya, even though he speaks Russian very well. He is very calculating and deliberate and shrewd every time he speaks. He never speaks off the cuff. You always get the feeling that he is choosing his words carefully, whether they are in English or Russian. And when he does speak, he is terse and concise but also expressive. Lucas is an intriguing character because he walks the line between being a good guy and a bad guy, and it's not until the end that you find out what he's really made of.The 1-starrers complained about the graphic sex scenes, but I don't regard them as gratuitous. They are integral to the story, to show the intensity of her feelings for him; her obsession with him. And he acquires very genuine feelings for her too; although it's different for him because he has a so much darker view of the world.Katya knows he has a wife back in America, and she speaks of her and is obviously jealous of her. Lucas has a daughter back in America too, although she is only mentioned once, and not by either of them.At first, I recoiled at the ending, but after thinking about it, I realized that it had to end the way it did. And it was satisfying to see Lucas finally acting out at the end without restraint. You might say he lets himself go. It's Lucas Hill Unchained.Don't listen to the 1-starrers. This is a very unique, taut, thoughtful, different movie that is well written, well developed, and well acted. It drags a little with his business dealings; so I would have tightened that up. But still: there are interesting characters, great chemistry between Lucas and Katya, great dialogue, and even the action scenes were done very well. I liked this movie so much, I watched it twice just to pick up the nuances.

waste of time
This is definitely not an action/suspense film. It's more like a very slow burn. The plot isn't all that good. Keanu's character is looking for the mysterious Pyotr, who has absconded with his diamonds somehow. Yet, he finds the time to fall in love with a local woman and have many steamy love scenes with her. So, he is apparently not all that worried about getting his diamonds back. He takes the time to hang out with her family and go on a bear hunt too. Not very realistic at all. Then, there is the drug use and drinking. And the scene where his girlfriend is forced to do something she doesn't want to with the man he's trying to sell the diamonds to. I ended up fast forwarding through most of these scenes. What was the point of this film? The story line just doesn't hold up at all. Molly Ringwald has a tiny part. We don't even see her face the first time she's on screen. The next time, she's just on her husband's tablet in a Skype call or something. Then, suddenly there are some FSB agents in the picture and they make the guy sell fake diamonds? Then, there is some random guy who's supposed to be from South Africa that is also after the diamonds, or is he Keanu's friend, or what? Really confusing, convoluted mess of a plot. Not much substance to it. Don't waste your time.

A diamond in the rough
Count me among those pleasantly surprised by Siberia, a low-budget film that shows fate tightening its grip on a man who has lost control of his business. No car chase scenes; no martial arts prowess; just a diamond dealer whose partner’s irresponsibility sets in motion a series of encounters with some dangerous people, including the Russian state intelligence service, the FSB. Keanu Reeves, who has always managed to be laidback and intense at the same time, is a good contrast with the joking yet volatile Russians he encounters, including his romantic interest. Good casting, acting and direction allow the interesting human relationships to complement the story; not be overshadowed by it.

Not Sure What To Make Of This Film...
This movie had a lot of potential but there were so many holes in the plot it was somewhat incoherent. Why did Lucas agree to go on this bear hunt? Why did he not search Pytor's cabin for the real diamonds? Also some items appeared in this movie that were....well unusual. How did a F-150 get to Siberia? Why did Lucas have to take on a bunch of gangsters with automatic weapons with a vintage Mosin Nagant? Why did they not give him that sweet SVT-40? What happened to Pytor's pistol? How is it no one in Russia seems to have a AKM? How did one of the gangsters have a AR-15 and one a Mossberg 590? Keannu's acting in this was pretty stiff. He under acts a lot anyway, but in this was like he was a zombie. His character is an enigma wrapped in a mystery. He seems to have some level of fighting skill both open hand and with weapons but none of this is explained. He is fluent in Russian, again, unexplained. We never really know who this character is at all. The Russian actors were actually quite good but they had to work within this nonsensical script. The whole thing just stretched the suspension of disbelief to it's breaking point. The movie was also relentlessly boring in many portions. It did have a few moments of action but most of it was a real snoozer. I gave it 3 stars for having a interesting concept that was deeply flawed in the execution.

No Idea
Actually I have no idea what this movie was about as I was unable to watch it,unfortunately, as it came from america and their videos don't work over here, dammit. The sooner we can go back to ordering from Amazon Uk the better. It's bad enough living in a country that does't show a good proportion of films and the T V is years late, if at all,Amazon UK was our lifeline to decent watching,Amazon Aus has very little to recommend it,so I doubt very much if they will be getting any more of my custom.

Komisches Ende
