Worked Great
Seemed to be very sensitive. Detected a leak we could not smell of natural gas.

Inaccurate readings. Not as sensitive as your nose. Somewhat useful.
I needed to find a natural gas leak in my kitchen (It's "odorized gas" so it smells like rotten eggs. This "Combustalble Gas Detector" seemed to have poor sensitivity: my nose picked up the smell of odorized natural gas, but the device showed zero. It wasn't very useful in tracking down the location of the leak.Ultimately, I found the leak (by spritzing liquid detergent on all the joint joints and watching for bubbles - easy!By chance, a Pacific Gas and Electric gas technician was in the neighborhood - he carries a professional meter, which is calibrated every day ("Sensit Gold G2"). I showed him this gas detector and he was immediately interested - we took them around my house, looking for leaks.Result: His calibrated, professional meter always read higher than this $35 meter, typically by a factor of about 3 or 4. (See photo - as a test, we turned on my gas stove (unlit) and measured the gas concentration. Notice that the cheap meter reads 400 parts per million at the same time when the calibrated meter shows 1850 parts per million. And yes, we tried several different positions & locations)My main concern is that my nose picked up the smell of gas long before this meter detected anything. Comparing four sensors (my nose, the technician's nose, my $35 meter, his $2000 meter), we found that my nose detected the smell of gas at about 5 to 10 parts per million, he detected gas at around 10 to 20 ppm, my meter only detected gas when concentrations exceeded 50 parts per million. (His professional meter detected gas down to 2 parts per million). The technician pointed out that he often smells natural gas so his nose is not so sensitive to the smell. He also said that his company insists on daily calibration of his meter; the $35 one probably was never calibrated. All the same, he said that this meter was better than nothing, especially when measuring leaks in hard-to-reach places. Conclusion: this isn't a professional meter. Don't rely on it for high sensitivity or accuracy. It's useful where your nose can't go.

Awesome and very sensitive gas detector.
I've had this gas detector for a few years now and it has always worked very well for detecting leaks. This one is much better than those long stick gas detectors with the lights. This one is very sensitive and will give you an accurate number reading, even down to very low numbers like 3 or 5. I've used it for my rental apartments when connecting gas stoves, checking gas lines in my home and gas meters at my properties and every time it finds the faintest leaks that exist that cannot be found with spraying and looking for bubbles. Hold down the power button for 3 seconds, it will turn on and do a 30 second countdown to warm up and then it's good to go for testing. Even the gas company guy was super impressed with this one that he was going to pick one up. For the price, you will definitely be completely satisfied with this one. As a hands on landlord and handyman who does a ton of work on properties including the occasional boiler replacement and other gas line work, this one has saved me many times.

Excellant tool for installing ANY gas appliance.
Worked great! Decided to redo some gas line plumbing in basement and after shutting the gas off, and taking off the first cap, wanted to make sure the gas was turned off. Used this gas sniffer to check it and watch the meter to make sure my house didn't blow up. After checking to make sure it was safe, then I disconnected all the lines I needed to reroute and installed new ones. When it came time to turn on my hot water tank, had tons of trouble getting the pilot light to come on. Found out with the gas sniffer, that tons of air was still in the lines. Didn't know that at first because all I did was turn on the valve until I heard a slight hissing, so assumed......assumed that the noise was gas. Wrong......it was all air! So turned on the gas valve a little with the flex line off the hot water tank, until the sniffer went nuts with lights and audible sound, shut the valve off, and then reconnected the line.....and wa-la!! The pilot lit immediately! I would still be there trying to light the darn pilot light if it wasn't for the sniffer! Priced nice and cheap, and works excellent! Highly recommend this item!

It's a good tool for locating problems
The instructions leave a lot to be desired from the stand point they don't explain how the product works. As for accuracy who knows. If your looking for a leak it will show you but I found on a faint leak it was useless, you could smell gas but could never find the exact source.

seems to work alright
doesn't really work the way I would of like but tested it with stove and a lighter and seems work alright, just has a odd 'triggered' behavior where it seem either sit at zero till it gets a strong whiff and gets activated and red lines fastI'd rather it gave me a reading of the trace gases in regular air, that could also give me something of a air quality report. But should certainly work well enough for intended purpose. And the digital display gives me more feedback then the light scale on the other in this price range.Shipping was fast, 3 AAA batteries were not included.

Great value and does detect natural gas
I've used this gas monitor for awhile now and I can tell you that this works great. We had a natural gas recently and I've decided to own a leak detecter that not only alert but give me more specific information on the level of leaking. This was the cheapest option available that can quantatively show has in ppm. I cannot really comment on the accuracy as I've not compared it with high end units, but I can tell that it showed me place where I had slight leak and the same was detected by a costly unit from the gas company. I have used this unit to fix leaks on my gas heater appliance, this one repair itself saved me lot of money compared to the price of this unit. Definitely recommend it!
