This set of Thai Chess is wonderful I really like the hand carved wood pieces. They are lovely and I am looking forward to playing chess with this very artistic set. It reminds me of the tasteful food and wonderful Thai people I have met here in the US. What a meaningful reminder of the ancient games, hand made items and cultural history that we all are inheritors of and that most of us have forgotten. Thank you for carrying such a beautiful item online.

The pieces are wood, but it is a light and cheap feeling material. The coating on the wood is irregularly pooled, making them look and feel low quality. They are a step up from the cheap plastic set I had before, but only barely.The game itself is an interesting version of chess. The pieces are overall slower than the big 3 modern versions of chess, but I find that creates a charm of its own -- there is more positioning and less puzzle-like sweeping moves. However, as printed, the game is very stalemate prone -- a losing player can use a formula to find a time limit they can impose on the winning player to impose mate or else the game is a draw. As a result, it is very hard to force a win against a reasonably careful opponent. That rule is easily omitted leaving an interesting and subtle game.
