Disappointing "Guaranteed for Life" service
My experience with Tilley and their "Guaranteed for Life" program:1. If you ever buy this Tilley Hiker hat the small hanging loop on the brim of your hat may become unattached on one side without you having applied any force on it and only 8 months following your purchase.2. If you write to Tilley’s Customer Service and attach photos showing the broken loop and evidence of purchase, they will write you back insisting on a photo showing the entire item as well as a photo of the inside label showing the words “Guaranteed for Life”.3. If you do as they ask you, be patient with them as it can take them 8 days to write you back.4. If you are lucky to get them to write back to you that they “have assessed your item and agree that it qualifies as part of the Guaranteed for Life program!" expect them to ask you for a £6.00 handling fee; to chose from their website 3 choices of a hat you wish to receive, according to availability; and to provide them with “proof of destruction photos” of your hat (including to write the date of their email clearly on the item and to cut off the top part of the hat). They will also ask you to get confirmation of the availability of your new hat before destroying your old item.5. If you do as they ask, please allow Tilley another 2 weeks to get back to you and don’t bother to write back to them that you are “extremely sorry and surprised to find out that Tilley has a negative sustainability policy” as they will ignore it.6. If they ever get back to you, expect new handling fee requirements of $20 to CA, US, and AU and $50 for the rest of the world.At this stage I gave up on returning the item and on ever buying Tilley again.
