Not my tool for sure
This item is good for people with patience :) I completely disagree with reviews about a time saver. You will slice faster than with a knife, but then....you will clean it forever. That is first. Second, the dicer is a big joke. You have to slice first, then put all rounds back to the feed port, adjust both modes and dice. The expected cubes come out as uneven pieces of different sizes. The french fries cut is ok, but the pieces are short. Back it goes.

Keeps your fingers from getting cut
It look like a very complicated mandolin to use, aside from adjusting the blades to certain widths it is quite the opposite it is easy and a joy to use. I've been using it for slicing my potatoes or julianning carrots and I would never go back to the traditional mandolin which used to every once in awhile cut a knuckle or tip of my finger.Gross! Your knuckles and fingers don't come anywhere near the super sharp blade. Within a matter of a minute or two I was able to dice and Julianne for potatoes. It was amazing and it was very easy in the cleanup as well I didn't have to worry about cutting myself on the sharp razor edges even when cleaning it. It's really a choice to cut potatoes paper thin now and not have to worry about my hands or fingers! It's sturdy I love the suction cups on the bottom that hold it firmly while you are shredding into a bowl or on a cutting board it's just a game changer. I do keep it in the box to keep it free from dust and to keep it more organized. There are attachments to it such as the cup that catches your vegetables and the attachment that holds your vegetables into the device without using your fingers. So you may want to think about this when it comes to cupboard space. But for me it's well worth it. Especially if you know someone who has a hard time shredding or dicing with the mandolin or a cheese shredder this could be a lifesaver for them and it's also a time saver. I love this mandolin!

Smaller version of a similar stable mandolin I recently ordered with plusses and a few minuses.
With the exception of the controls this is very close to the design of it's bigger bother. They were from different vendors, but pretty obviously use much of the same design with some differences. A minor weakness from both is the small suction cups on the base could be larger. Plus, you do need a very smooth surface to attach to, a porous surface won't stick. In heavy use these will likely fail at some point, but they stayed intact for my testing. This model is about 1/3 smaller overall than its big brother. It will still slice most cucumbers, zucchini, carrots, and onions. They can't be the jumbo type you you'll have to cut them down to size. Adjustment controls are almost identical between the two models as you can control the width of the slices and two rows of teeth for stripping or shredding. The action and safety come from a dual return spring that only require you to do the downward push, then return to the top. This model differs from its big brother that instead of engaging a latch to keep handle down when storing, this one has you twist the round handle to lock. Its big brother requires a latch since it's a rectangular shaped handle. Both units fold down for easy storage although you do have to store the catch container and the pusher separately as they don't compact. The catch container is a little tricky you need to make sure the legs open out as far as possible to insert the container and it will fit level with the back on a ridge. Cleaning is relatively easy the main blade is sprayed off or soaked and the teeth should be extended and use the included brush to clean along with the plastic ridges. Blades are stainless to they should not rust. A small downside of this is the hopper is not very big so if making a decent size salad or recipe you'll have to empty it a few more times. Most veggies seem to cut well, but on large carrots you need some momentum, and I would not advise for a summer sausage or other meat products. Soft tomatoes should also be done with speed, or they may mash rather than cut. Unlike some but not all mandolins this does not have a side angled blade for starting the slicing motion. It's straight on, but proper action should slice or shred most things just fine. Recommended.

Safety First
A couple of years ago, I had an unfortunate accident with my regular mandolin that resulted in a badly injured finger on Christmas Day. After throwing that away, I vowed to use only my chef knife and food processor for food prep, knowing how much slower and inefficient those are than a mandolin in most cases. About a year ago a friend told me to check out one of the home shopping channels because there was a famous chef promoting their “safe”mandolin. Although I was really interested, I still couldn’t bring myself to use a mandolin yet. I recently saw this mandolin and it appealed to me because it was similar to the TV Madeline. It is quick, easy to clean and uses a hand, crank, keeping my hand a lot farther away from the blade. But most importantly, I found that it was smaller than the mandolin from TV. I found it more manageable and definitely not as frightening as a regular mandolin. A downside is that it requires the item you're cutting to be a specific size or shape. Generally smaller and shorter than most vegetables. The feet don't stick to my counter which requires me to hold the machine down while using the pusher.

Solid slicer with great safety features for clumsy cooks like me
I ordered this mandoline for our vacation home since we didn’t have one there. I make a killer au-gratin potato dish that is my daughter's favorite, and also make sliced veggie tarts from time to time. I’ve always been a big fan of those cheap turquoise Japanese slicers that you see everywhere—they’re simple, in expensive, and sharp as heck. I am a bit clumsy and have a medical condition which causes my hands to tremor from time to time, and I've sliced my fingers more than once when using other mandolines. Overall, I’m really happy with this! It feels well-built and has a lot more versatility. The adjustable blades make it easy to get different thicknesses, and I love that I can use it for everything from potatoes and carrots to cucumbers and zucchini. I was also pleasantly surprised by how much it can help with additional dishes thanks to the different chopping settings. I have started to use this to help me with my chicken pie prep, and its a godsend. The biggest win for me is definitely SAFETY. The built-in hand guard is a game changer for my shaky hands. I’ve had enough painful run-ins with exposed blades in the past, so having something that actually protects my fingers while slicing is a relief. The blades are super sharp, but with the safety guard, I feel a lot more confident using it. That said, I do think it’s best suited for slicing rather than chopping or dicing. I tried using it for onions, and while it worked well for slicing, it was a bit trickier to get an even dice. Cleaning out the little bits afterward took some effort too, but they provide a little tool to help. All in all, this mandoline slicer has been a great addition to our vacation home kitchen. It’s well-designed, easy to use, and most importantly, keeps my fingers safe. I'm going to replace my trusty Japenese slicers with this one at my main home.
