Comparable to the March 815-SS and March 809 Beer Pumps, this 115-volt CHUGGER PUMP CPSS-CI-1 WITH PLUG is the first pump made by brewers for home brewers like you. ETL-certified and made with USFDA food compliant materials, it’s a premium, sensible, and affordable alternative to expensive March pumps and has 25 percent more power with its 1/20 HP motor. Another benefit is stainless-steel heads that are interchangeable with existing March brand pump motors. This pump is not a self-priming pump so DO NOT RUN DRY—the CHUGGER PUMP head must be flooded with liquid prior to turning on the pump. It has been tested for safety and performance standards. Please check your electrical requirements before placing order.

I wouldn't buy another
I really wanted to love this pump but for brewing it is effectively useless. When I bought the unit I accepted the fact that this is not a "self priming pump". That being said no amount of priming makes this pump useful. I also tried adding a "bleeder valve" on both the in and out sides of this pump in an attempt to purge any air left in the system. Even with two full hoses the pump would only move a small portion of liquid and if any air were present it would start cavitating again.I would almost give this pump a pass if I had to use it for moving cold liquid. with cold liquid I can afford to slop around and add liquid to pre-prime but with hot wort at near boiling temperatures messing around is the last thing you should be doing. I wish I would have returned this pump ASAP but I wanted to try troubleshooting and adding the bleeder valve. This caused me to fall outside of the AZ return date.If you are a brewer please think twice about this one and buy something of better quality.

Great tool for the brewer who cares about consistency and quality.
I bought this pump for an 8-gallon homebrew set up. My start to finish time has gone from 5 hours to 3. My brews are now more consistent and repeatable and I haven't burned my self since starting using this pump.I like this pump because the head gives great pressure on the outlet. I've been using it to clean kegs as well as pump wort on brew days. I did have to reduce the inlet, to 1/2" to accommodate my set up and tools available, but have had no cavitation problems. The pump is easy to clean, speeds up brew days, makes brewing more safe as well as more repeatable. I would buy this pump again in a heart beat.

This is a great pump so far
This is a great pump so far. I went from 5 gal. to 15+ gal batches and didn't want to be lugging around 100+ lbs of boiling wort. So a pump was needed. This one fits into the new system just fine. It's not self-priming, so that's an issue you'll just have to live with that. I find that cycling the power several times helps to get things flowing. Also, with this model (center inlet) you'll likely have to use a 3/4" garden hose fitting (the inline model ports are both 1/2") -- I wanted to use all Cam-and-Groove Pipe fittings, but I couldn't find a 3/4" NPT female to 1/2" cam lock (all of my hoses have 1/2" females). Not a big deal -- just something to consider.

Why two different thread sizes?
Used it today to transfer wort from boil through chiller plate. Why, why do you have a 3/4 Male on one and 1/2 male on other? Instead of just getting two 1/2 to 1/3 barb firings I need to find a reducer which is a pain. Other than trying to find extra parts, pump worked well. Only used once so far, will rate longer term after more use.

Pretty much does everything you want
Pretty much does everything you want, has enough head pressure to lift fluids through a HERMs coil. The only issue I have since it's not yet mounted to anything, is reducing cavitatiion. I have found that the hardest thing to do so far, Once all air is purged from the line it works very well. My only issue is that I didn't realize the inlet is a 3/4 inch NPT resulting in the need for a step down collar to work with the 1/2 inch NPT standard use on most homebrew systems.

Quiet little beasts.
Ordered two of these, one ran so quiet and smooth and the other had a small rattle to it. I sent it back to chugger for a warranty replacement with no issue. These are great, nice and quiet, plenty of power too. The stainless head is heavy duty and nice quality. Has a mounting bracket on the bottom for versatile installation. I only wish they had an inline or toggle power switch, otherwise, when you plug them in, they go!

Great price on a reliable homebrew pump
Great price on a reliable homebrew pump. I will be using to whirlpool New England style IPAs and then pump through a counterflow chiller. Don't forget when ordering your fittings that the center inlet is 3/4" and not 1/2" like the outlet (or the inlet of the inline style Chuggers).

Stopped Working
Water well below boiling, it seems to overheat and stop working. After resting, it will sometimes come back on if I turn it off, let it rest, and turn it on again. This item replaced another of the same model that lasted about a year. That one wasn't purchased from Amazon, as was just outside the 12 month warranty. Now Chugger says contact the seller for warranty info, so I'm left to deal with Amazon.
