## Description

Early in 1968, a group of young British musicians, born from the ashes of various failed regional bands gathered in hunger, destitution, and modest optimism in Luton, North of London. With a common love of Blues and an appreciation, between them, of various other music forms, they started to win over a small but enthusiastic audience in the various pubs and clubs of Southern England. The breakthrough came when they were offered the Thursday night residency at London's famous Marquee Club in Wardour Street, Soho. 5CD set collecting five of their original albums, in card LP replica sleeves! Track List: Disc 1 – Songs From The Wood Disc 2 – Heavy Horses Disc 3 – Stormwatch Disc 4 – A Disc 5 – The Broadsword And The Beast Please click the above images for the complete track list.

Review: Great music - Good quality audio and value for money
Review: Songs From the Wood Carries the Weight - Songs From the Wood is clearly the headliner here followed by Heavy Horses. For me, the others are take em or leave em though they might grow on me some. The sound quality doesn't help. This taught me I prefer early Tull. Wish it included Benefit or TAaB but for the price its a good way to explore a bit of 80s Tull which happens to be a bit of a flop for me. I found A to be pretty good with the first half even better. I'd say every album has at least 2 good songs but the folkier stuff is great. Who knows, I'm guessing some prefer the 80s stuff.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ British Originals Should Not Be Forgotten

I came to Jethro Tull (led by Ian Anderson) 'late in life.' Well, I'm seventy and I heard his music 'back in the day' but it didn't resonate then. Here is a fine retrospective set of four discs representing four of his albums. That is a lot of music at this price. I never heard "Songs From the Wood." Can you 'get your head around' the idea that a traditional flute player can be a 'Rocker?' Having listened to a lot more music and to more varied music over these many years, I 'get it' better now. 'Songs From the Wood' shows strong roots in the Madrigal and Morris Dancing and in the British/Irish traditions of folk tambor style drums. Just the names of these cuts (I don't know that they are traditional), 'Songs From the Wood', 'Jack-in-the-Green,' 'Hunting Girl' and 'Ring Out Solstice Bells', give a timeless background to the rest of the album. Soon enough, the guitar work enters the world of the 'Seventies.' Jethro Tull seems to provide the listener with the 'Best of Both.' Things get increasingly contemporary on each following disc. The listener is 'invited' to follow Ian Anderson and his band mates as they walk a creative path through the world of sounds. Back in the day, many fans could not make the trip with them all the way. I admit that I can't play these four CD's--even one at a time--with my wife at home. I have to work away at them. Still, it is 'something' for me to be able to hear 'serious' musicians at work. For my ears, they 'show up' in each album to offer real music, very quickly music with a psychedelic rock base. If you are a fan and have followed them 'all the way' each album will have cuts that stir your memories. I like this compendium and relisten to each disc but I can't claim to have 'signed on' for every album or every cut. I do feel the music world would be much less interesting without Jethro Tull!
