It does come with a "starter" set of ink, one black, one tricolor. You should get 75-100 prints of black and white text before it's spent. I suggest you consider the HP Instant Ink program as the best value for the buck. Depending no how many copies you print, the cost per page will rival remanufactured cartridges, with the security of getting OEM consumables. **Q: Does it print from iMac?** A: Maybe or Probably not. If I'm on my condo community wifi to access my email I cannot print to this printer from my iPad because it sees the printer as the network. I can print anything stored on my device but not while I'm attached to the internet. I can't determine why. My options are to let everyone have access to my printer or constantly store data I just wanted to print. **Q: Can this print without the color cartridge installed or with the color cartridge empty? I print black only and don't want to buy color cartridges.** A: Yes, you can. I have had this printer for years and that was one of my requirements when replacing my previous printer which required both cartridges to have acceptable ink levels to operate even if printing black and white only. I did not realize that when I bought the previous printer, so I immediately looked for a suitable replacement.
