I Like This Collection For The Brief Snippets of History Provided of How Each Version Originated
Illustrations are generally well done, too, although three of the images are repeated in the book in one fashion or the other. Book has a fine table of contents allowing you to read any of the 13 versions in any order you choose which is a definite plus. Brings back the memories, or as the famous line goes, "Run, run as fast as you can..."

A Taste of Many Cultures - Wrapped In One Story
Until reading this book, I had no idea there were so many versions of the gingerbread man story. This book is a compilation of 13 stories about what we call the "gingerbread man."In English folklore, he is called "Johnny-cake" and "pudding." In German and Norwegian folklore, he is referred to as a pancake. In Scotland, he bears the title of "Wee Bannock."No matter what he is called, the story remains constant. Everybody is out to eat the poor fellow, and he spends the bulk of the story running away. The details and language change in each story, though, bringing out the differences in cultures.A delightful book that my son and I enjoyed reading!

My grandchildren and I love these. I tried to tell them the story
My grandchildren and I love these. I tried to tell them the story, but couldn't remember all of it so I did a quick search to find a version I thought they would like. This is perfect because there are so many different variations.

Disappointing
It states it’s beautifully illustrated but there is not a single picture in the whole book. I was expecting more then what I got.

Another Great Collection!
As with the other collections, I’m endlessly amazed at the amount of lore and relative stories that can be tied back to the central theme of the Gingerbread Man. Culturally, every story has its own spin, and its fun to imagine how children in each area of the world grew up knowing different versions of the same tales. I think my favorite here was The Wee Bannock, because I love Scottish lore, and could picture parents telling this story to their little ones. Another great collection and a “must have” for the library!
