Note: Depending on how the wood is situated will help determine where on the chainsaw/bar you will want to place the Helper. If the log/wood is lying on the ground, placing the Helper on the tip of the bar allows you to make a nibble mark with the saw along the length without bending over. In some situations you may want to complete the cut at the same time. In other situations, as when measuring large rounds, the Helper can be placed further back on the bar. The Helper measures the same length when placed on either side of the chainsaw bar. - Testimonials: My husband was very pleased when I gave him the Woodcutters Helper. Our firewood is more reliably cut to the same length now and this makes it so much easier to stack! I have not noticed any trouble keeping it on the saw blade, that is a very strong magnet! I use it on my smaller saw as well. All in all, we are very happy with our purchase. Reasonably priced and well worth the money. Penny D. -- Simple, effective, affordable. Great tool. Dan I.-- Hi I really am pleased with my Woodcutters Helper. Not only does it save me time on marking logs but my cut logs are within a fourth of an inch of each other. That never happened for me using a ruler and hatchet. Thanks, Eddie Moreland, GA. - We want you to be completely happy with your purchase so please contact us with any questions or concerns. Please saw safe!

Works great!
Makes cutting wood to the correct length for my stove much easier. I used to eyeball it, and usually got pretty close to my chosen length of 16 inches, but occasionally, I would cut some that were over 20 inches long, which is about 1 inch too long to fit into my wood stove. It's one thing to cut a log too short, but when its too long, well lets just say that there will be much cussing. Using this device makes it much easier to get the length to within a 1/4 inch of 16 inches every time. The magnet sticks to the chainsaw bar really well, and the orange color makes it easy to find if you have dropped it. The only problem that I have had is that I use it to cut the branches of the tree first (after felling), and sometimes the device will get knocked off of the bar. I have had the saw hit the rod and send it flying 30 feet, in which case the orange color REALLY comes in handy. It has gotten some nicks in it, but it still works great. The instructions say not to use it on branches, but those are the ones that I usually cut too long, so I'll keep using it for cutting them. If I manage to cut the rod in half and can't glue it back together, I'll buy another one. It is that good.

Rod & magnet separated after minimal use
After 6 months of occasional use, I'm now lowering my rating to a "2" because the magnet base and measurement rod came apart and there is no way to successfully reattach them. The rod is just pressed into the base. Without any significant trauma it just came loose while removing it from my saw bar. I've tried to repair with the strongest epoxy but it only lasted a few hours. The rod needs to be more securely attached to the base and maybe have a flexible spring joint to reduce strain on the connection. If you buy this be prepared to replace about every few months.Original review: Really like the simplicity of this simple measurement device. Didn't realize it when I ordered it but you can just keep it on your saw bar as you cut wood. Seems a little pricey for what you get but I'm keeping it stored in the shipping tube to prevent damaging it.

Wife Doesn’t Make Fun of Me Anymore
Great tool for harvesting firewood. My wife used to always make fun of my inconsistent cuts. Not any more. I’ll slap this on my saw once I have a tree bucked and run down the length making a mark with the chain every 16”s. I’ll then remove it and make my full cuts. The magnet is strong enough for how I use it. I wouldn’t recommend leaving it on your saw while you cut. It gets knocked loose as you work and could potentially interfere with your cut.

No more guessing how long your log round is!
Another brilliant idea that I never knew about. I've been cutting my own firewood for a long time, but I have never been good at judging the length of the rounds I cut up. Too long and they don't fit in the wood stove; too short and they just look stupid and don't stack easily. Enter this guide. A powerful magnet attaches to the chainsaw bar so that you can measure and notch all along a downed tree and, after cutting them through, you'll have perfect length rounds that you can then split. Simple, elegant, no muss, no fuss. I use my small sapling and limb chainsaw for the notching part, then come back with my larger saw for the actual cutting. If you have ever been frustrated because you cut the big round too short or the little round too long, get this.

Awesome.
I can believe such a simple little thing is so useful. I cut, split, stack, and burn about 6-8 cords of wood for the winter. You'd think eventually I'd get an eyeball for what 16" is everytime but honestly when I'm hot and tired its sure nice not to have to guess. I just score a log with this and then cut the entire stack using that one log as a reference.

Simple
A magnet and a rod. Simple. It stays in place very well with the strength of the magnet. I make my marks, take it off and put it in my pocket and start cutting with very clear marks to follow. Nice.

works great
So far i've used it for about 2 cords of wood and it works pretty good. I had to add an extension on the end of this since i cut to 24" lengths. The magnet holds pretty good but can pop off but it's better than nothing.

Great time saver for the money
This little addition is great, is it perfect? No... Does it fall off? Occasionally.... I stick it on the bar, closest to the machine motor.Just takes time to get used to. I also recommend some plastic wedges and the woodchuck log holder.
